we need i.e. healthcare for all, good education, food for starving people - do we need a base on the moon? Where is all this money coming from to fund these things like moon bases?

2. As much as I'd like to see all the things you mention
I know that space exploration is also important. I support NASA's plan to have a full-time operational station on the moon by 2024.

It's about time.

5. Why, it's pretty obvious... it's coming from other NASA programs
like the MTPE. You know, the people that actually gather facts about Global Warming and other environmental problems. And other research areas.

I like the idea of space exploration, but it doesn't have to be manned anymore. The recent missions to mars have shown that we don't HAVE to send people. We should continue, there may be some really good economic reasons for doing so. But we shouldn't do it as a reason to take money from other missions that NASA is currently doing (except for the shuttle and space station).

6. If it wasn't shrubie proposing it, you might have a different take
the real long view, yes, yes we do.

If humanity is to survive, we need to expand from mother earth to other stellar bodies in the system, and ultimately to other solar systems

So yes, this is the first step.

I'd also like to remind you that many of those technologies developed for Apollo (teflon for example) have been very useful

13. Hell, yeah
We're (Read = Corporations) disposing of Earth's resources as if they are replaceable. They're not. Water being the one that comes to mind immediately, and oil.

Not to mention the huge scientific reasons to return to space - understanding dark matter, explaining gravity in an expanding universe, the Big Bang, etc. Returning to space is a must-do.

There are many reasons to explore space, and they are vital to humankind's continued existence. The problem has always been funding.

Roll back those tax cuts for the uber-rich!

7. I'd like to see Bush on the moon. But what would he do
with his ranch in Paraguay?

Earth would be much nicer if Bush were living on the moon.

8. Yes we need to go back to the Moon....
...We should have done this in the 80s, it is imperative we proceed with Space Exploration. Lots of things can be achived if Defense spending was cut in half at the least and social programs were not sacrificed to warmongering.

People could be fed and given make segnigicant differences in other important social concerns, but what do they do with their millions? Have you seen how Roberts, Perkins, Falwell and Hagee live? From the babble versus below you can translate that they clearly missed these sections of the book. if MegaChurchs and followers of X did what is written in that little book of theirs, we wouldnt have a majority of the problems we today, why do they not do these things? because G-d and Jesus are not real, in any aspect.

Here are some versus for you to ponder:

Matthew 6:19
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and Money.

Matthew 19:21-24
Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Matthew 19:28-29
Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.

Luke 9:23-25
Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?

Matt 13: 22
The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.

Hebrews 13:5
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."

Phil 2:3
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

Acts 2:44-45
All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.

The message is clear. If you want to follow Jesus, you need to "sell your possessions and give to the poor." It is a very simple message, and easy to do. Have you done it? The fact that you are reading this page would indicate that you have not. Chances are you own a computer, pay for an Internet connection every month, live in a home or apartment, have a car, etc. In other words, you live a life at a level of wealth unimaginable in Jesus' time. Meanwhile, billions of people on the planet live in startling, abject poverty.

Why don't you sell everything and follow Jesus, as he requests in the Bible? The reason is simple: Jesus and God are imaginary, and you know it. If Jesus were real, you would do what he says.

9. Operation Lunatick
like a tick, they have to suck the lifeblood out of every social program or safety net so they can fund wars, and give tax cutes to the ultrarich ... and put a base on the moon.

10. Anybody who does not believe that any moon base will not be used for military reasons
Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 09:25 PM by elocs
is severely deluded. No, we do not NEED to go back to the moon. It is absolutely right that there are more than enough issues and problems here on this planet that need to be solved. There is not a limitless pot of money from which to draw. How could anybody possibly justify spending billions on space exploration when there is so much real need here. This is no JFK announcing that man will land on the moon in the decade. Reality check: this is about the military no matter what noble explanations are given. Wake up and smell the coffee and reengage with reality because this is not Star Trek.

12. Gitmo on Selene -- "The Lonely" from The Twilight Zone.
Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 09:34 PM by longship
Rod Serling's The Lonely aired on November 13, 1959.

The question is, does ChimpCo want to make Selene another Gitmo?

Might as well, eh?
