Senate Democratic leaders, just hours after a bipartisan commission urged changes in the Bush administration's Iraq strategy, announced plans for a series of oversight hearings into the war after they take control of the chamber in January.

Three panels will hold hearings to examine issues ranging from how to alter President George Bush's military strategy in Iraq to the impact of the war on stability in the Middle East, Democratic leaders said in a statement.

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada said today that oversight will also include an examination of faulty intelligence that helped to form the justification for the 44- month conflict.

``We are going to look on how the intelligence was manipulated prior to going to war,'' Reid told reporters.

Democrats have vowed to increase oversight of the administration after they won control of the House and Senate in the Nov. 7 elections. House Democrats have also signaled they will boost oversight of the war, including sole-source bids to government contractors such as Halliburton Co. Vice President Richard Cheney was chief executive of the company for four years ending in 2000.

6. If I could give you another R, I would!
I'm glad our guys aren't fooled by the bullshit report. Bush WILL NOT CHANGE, until he's forced to change.

7. It has always amazed me how the Repukes have said that they
didn't want to waste time on what had already happened and just wanted to look forward. First, that's not oversight. Second, if you don't know how you got there, how the hell can you figure out where you're going? I suspect that as soon as these hearings start we're going to hear the "blame game" refrain start up again.

I, for one, WANT there to be blame placed. Someone needs to be held responsible. And I want that done BEFORE Bush gives Rumsfeld the Medal of Freedom for his "heckofajob". I'm so glad the adults are back in charge!

13. Very important phrasing here "how the intelligence was manipulated"
Not "if" but "HOW."

Dennis Kucinich asks the pointed question, why are we ready to pass the appropriatins to continue the war? To show our support for the troops?
