Whenever anyone suggests that bush get impeached or step down, you always hear, 'what good would that do, cheney would be the president'? Hell, cheney IS the president, always was, always will be, so in reality, there would be absolutely no difference if bush stepped down.

If we demand bush be impeached or step down like Nixon did, this situation requires that bush AND cheney go, a package deal, you can't arrest one without the other.

Seriously, when speaking of the impeachment or resignation of bush, we must always include cheney, they are the co-joined twins of tyranny.

But could we (seriousness discussion here) actually get them as a package deal? Oh we know the crimes (impeachable offenses) that both have committed, but would enough of the PUBLIC go along to get the 67 Senators needed to remove both at once.

In over 200 years of Constitutional history, A President has never been removed from office via the impeachment process. Nixon was never impeached, let alone tried by the Senate. Johnson (Andrew) and Clinton were tried, but not enough votes were gathered to remove either. Just getting rid of Bush would be historic.

A double removal would create a "Constitutional Crisis" atmosphere within the press and public of unequal proportions. As mentioned above, getting rid of Bush alone would be historic. Add in the factor of a "two-fer" and the ramifications are inversely multiplied.

Plus there is a procedural problem. The impeachment/removal process is geared toward a single individual. Could you impeach in the House and try in the Senate both at once, or would you have to impeach, try, and remove Bush first, then swear-in Bicis Dickis as President, then go through the whole process all over again? If it's the later, then I suggest that Congress have the damn papers ready to go, otherwise Darth the First will have outlawed Congress before the echoes of his oath have died.

just friggin' impeached. I always talk about impeaching * but I know, beyond question, that there is ample evidence to string the pig up as well.

I suspect that the Libby trial, along with the investigations that now have to happen, since oversight is pretty much mandated and there's no way to provide oversight without knowing where to start.

Knowing where to start certainly means finding out where you are.

What I find so enormously frustrating is, on doing o little research, the threads of criminality get so complex that I get tempted to throw up hands and quit.

I'll bet, when the shit fan starts blowing, there will be massive, confusing, conflicting, and , all in all, simply amazing torrents of criminal undoing.
It will probably be the greatest downfall in history, with district attorneys, prosecutors and investigators kept busy for years and years.

as president. Why does this bother people? If you dont think DC hasn't been running this show from the beginning anyway, why is it so horrible if he moves into the appropriate slot.

A GW impeachment is symbolic and I think would be a wonderful example to the world.

My problem with this is that I would find it hard to believe that impeachable offense that would remove Bush would most likely also include Cheney. I mean how could it not.

But having a nuetered Cheney take the post wouldn't really mean much to me as I think he would simply take the post he has been shadowing for the past 6 years.

You got it. There is no separating the two headed monster -- both must be impeached. To impeach one without the other is to effectively exonerate the one they fail to impeach.
