Canadian vs. US workplace? |
|
I never thought there was much of a difference between the States and Canada. Until I made friends with Canadians (I LOVE Canada, BTW). Many people insist there's no difference between the Canadian workplace versus US, but there are differences. Unions are more prevalent up there, right? So that's a big influence on workplace culture. The universal healthcare available up there versus none down here affects both employees and employers (more stress on both in US).
I'm curious about other differences in the workplace, not only between Canada and the US, but differences between the US workplace and other countries. How our way of governing and doing business affect the workplace. I have a bit of a bet with a Canadian friend that there are more differences than she realizes. :)
Any thoughts and input are appreciated!

1. The only one I can think of offhand... |
|
is that Canadian women are entitled to a year of maternity leave vs just 6 wks for Americans. I also know in some states you can be fired for any reason at all, no suing for wrongful dismissal. I don't think that holds up here. Sorry, I've been out of the workplace for a long time so not too sure. :)

2. I forgot about that! Yes..... |

and I don't know if it varies from province to province, but it seems that in Quebec they receive (and use to receive) more funds for every child you have. Not welfare at all, more an incentive.
Great point about maternity benefits. Thanks!
