The dems are owned by the very same people
who own the repubs.
And we now expect WHAT to happen?

56. Do you think an Al Gore Presidency would have been as bad
let's just list the big stuff

Do you think Al Gore might have taken the pre 9/11 warnings seriously - maybe stopping the attack
Do you think Al Gore would have started a pre-emptive strike against Iraq murdering god only knows how many innocent Iraqis and almost 3,000 American soldiers and wounding horribly 10s of thousands more and pissing away half a trillion tax payer dollars
Do you think Al Gore would have played golf or strummed a guitar while people died in NOLA
Do you think Al Gore would conduct warrantless wiretapping on American citizens
Do you think the national debt would have increased by almost 2 trillion $ and the deficit at oh who knows what it is now let's say 400 billion under a Gore administration

Oh I could go on and on but you get the point

So this is why some of us blame Nader....

I know there are problems with both Dems and repunks - but there is no doubt in my mind that this would be a very different place if Nader hadn't gotten 96,000 votes in FL.

61. Not as bad
But come on.
Clinton bombed Iraq.
Clinton's sanctions killed thousands.
Clinton pushed the war against Milosovich and befriended KLA "freedom fighters" who were trained in Al Qaeda camps.
Clinton fucked over the working class with NAFTA and told the working class, fuck you.
Clinton threw welfare recipients into the streets.

Clinton was beholden to corporate interests.

Different corporations, perhaps, but still.

37. I'll second that
I bet that for a HUGE number of Americans, this is the one time every year they listen to any kind of sustained back-and-forth political debate. Anybody who prefers Bush's party to the Democrats because they think he's a calm, cool, collected leader (and for better or worse, there are still people like that out there) wouldn't have a basis for being turned off by the Democratic response.

he delivered and I think the speech will be very effective. He is getting some praise all over the board.

I think his tone was a relief and I like "There is a better way". They will have to follow-up on that but I think if they get organized, they can do it.

Kaine did good.

53. It was good
The speech was great but his delivery wasn't so great. If people listened, he made some very damning points against the Bush Administration. He cleared up many misrepresentations and half truths told by Bush in the SOTU. No one is going to listen to fire and brimstone unless you are preaching to the choir. If I come up to you and hell you that you're going to hell, your response would be a negative one. The content of the speech was excellent. It reached out to a broad range of Americans and not just those on the far left.

In a couple of threads now, I've said the same thing.

Why didnt Howard Dean give the Democratic response??

Sorry to all you DUers who held out such hope for this Tim Kaine guy. I knew nothing about him before tonight, other than he won in VA.

I certainly have an opinion of him now. Weak, smarmy, cheesy, insincere, and he made my skin crawl.

When are the Dems going to get some balls and call the republicans what they are??

Democrats are too afraid that someone might not like them.
