A pregnant pause in right wing
Social conservatives remain silent or temper their criticism about news that Cheney's gay daughter is expecting.
By Johanna Neuman, Times Staff Writer
December 7, 2006

WASHINGTON — No Republican in Washington is more beloved by social conservatives than Vice President Dick Cheney, who with his wife, Lynne, has backed and breathed every issue dear to them for six tumultuous years.

News that Cheney's lesbian daughter, Mary, is pregnant has therefore touched a nerve, as advocates for conservative values struggle to reconcile their loyalty to the Cheneys with their visceral opposition to same-sex relationships — and particularly to raising a child without a father.

Not only is she doing a disservice to her child, she's voiding all the effort her father put into the Bush administration," said Janice Shaw Crouse, senior fellow at the Beverly LaHaye Institute, the think tank of Concerned Women for America. Asked why the administration downplayed the news, she added, "This is Cheney's daughter; anything they say will make the situation worse."

2. Beverly LaHaye has an Institute?
I'm surprised Fred Phelps hasn't set one up yet. That seems to be all you need to get the presstitutes to take you seriously.

8. Beverly LaHaye's Institute.
If it's anything like a lot of other right-wing "institutes" it probably consists of a website and a PO box, and maybe a FAX number at the local Kinkos.

5. 'particularly to raising a child without a father."
That is the biggest pile of shit. Many women raise a child without a father due to various circumstances. As far as I'm concerned it's better to have the child raised by two people that care about the kid than one person-basically because it's easier for two than one. But I'd rather have a gay/lesbian couple raising the kid than what passes for a "normal" family in a lot of circumstances. My wife has worked in a homeless shelter for abandoned/neglected children for 30 years and the worst, most screwed up kids came from the most nutjob religious families. The more psychologically, sexually and physically abused, the more likely the parents are religious whackos.

7. As someone else noted, these creatures haven't said
a mumbling word about all the children left fatherless by Bush's war.

Their hypocrisy is a stench in God's nostrils.

6. They'ld be screaming it on the rooftops if it were a Gore
or a Clinton that was to become a grandparent from their gay offspring. Yesterday, Terry Jeffrey was on CNN yammering how 'a child is being denied their God Given Right to have a father and mother.'

Unbelievable! I guess it doesn't occur to him that God sometimes takes away that GGR (think of Mr. Kim who was found yesterday, for example). He also failed to mention anything about the growing numbers of mothers and fathers who have died in Iraq leaving a child without their GGR.

9. Hypocritical bastards
Imagine if this was Chelsea Clinton. Just think about that for a minute. No one would even discuss Iraq anymore, it would be all Chelsea, all day, every day. Derbyshire would be calling to have both mother and child murdered, Pigboy would be bloviating about these damn liberals and their animalistic lifestyles, Fux would suspend all programming to go 24-hour-Chelsea.
