My question about the Cheney Baby |
|
Did Cheney know about the baby before the election?
He had to know and decided to keep it secret until after the election. The reports say the baby is due in late spring. That would make conception around July or August. Also I wouldn't think you just decide on invitro and have it done the next day. There would have to be some planning involving several monthly cycles. Does anyone know about the procedure and time element involved?
This is similar to Bush withholding info about firing Rumsfeld until after the election. Once again they told their base one thing and while doing another. I wonder if Wolf Blitzer could look at the timeline and show clips of the Cheney's slamming gay marriage while their daughter was trying to conceive with her lesbian lover.

1. As much as I hate Cheney, that sort of thing is private. |
|
It's true that they manipulated their base in a way, but it was in a way that makes sense. It's entirely private. IVF has a high miscarriage rate--would you want a loved one going through all that, getting it in the press, only to lose the baby in a horribly public way?
Mary is a chip off the old block and proudly so, even though she works against her own self-interests, but I think she made the right decision here.

3. They butt into everyone else's private life, why do they get privacy? |
|
They can't have it both ways.

These people are soooo evil when it comes to privacy issues, they should have all their dirty laundry exposed. The bottom line is "they" make these subjects issues.

One set of rules for them. Another set of rules for everyone else.

9. They get privacy because they can pay for it, of course. |

How clear can it be? The ONLY 'rights' we have are the 'rights' we can pay for. To be secure in our homes we have to pay for a home - the homeless DON'T HAVE SUCH RIGHTS. "Freedom of the Press" is nothing but the basis for a corporate oligopoly that has Constitutional limits on regulation. (Gotta love the ability to prevent regulation.)
One dollar = one vote. That's what happens when capitalism becomes a POLITICAL philosophy!!

13. True, but I'm likely to err on the side of privacy in this. |
|
I agree that they act like more money gets them more rights, and I agree that Cheney is evil, with Mary close behind. I do think, though, that going through fertility treatments isn't something anyone else needs to know.

2. Hadn't thought about that |
|
But you raise an interesting question.
I do know that Cheney has opined that the matter of gay marrriage is an issue best left to the states, and we can all see how well that's worked out in Virginia, where Mary Cheney keeps her home. Of course, being a Cheney and rich as shit, the hate-filled laws of Virginia won't apply to Mary, will they, like they applied to me and my partner, who lost our joint health benefits thanks to those laws.

4. I wonder how Cheney feels about having a Grandchild that's a bastard. |
|
Born out of wedlock.
And he is largely responsible for the fact that his own Grandchild will never have the same privileges as he does. And his very own Daughter will never have the same rights that he does. What a disgrace.

6. I don't think that Dick Cheney is the one who should announce |
|
the impending birth anyway. Isn't it usually the parent(s) who do that? I don't know if they kept it under wraps for political or personal reasons, but either way, I hope Mary has a healthy baby who gives the family much joy.

12. There's a lot wrong with this |
|
First of all, Cheney doesn't own his daughter and doesn't have any say about what she does with her body. I don't see how this is even slightly relevant re him and the election. Why would he announce it? It's only his business in that his daughter chooses to make it his business.
Second, what Mary Cheney's medical records and medical history aren't my or your business regardless. She wasn't running for anything this past election anyway.

That makes her hypocrisy a big issue.

15. An issue for HER maybe, but not for her dad |
|
they're two different people and she's an adult. People are saying *her father* should have announced this before the election. How does that make sense? *He* wasn't even on the ballot, let alone her.

17. A Dem's family is always criticized, why are repugs immune from everything?... |
|
Cheney made his daughter central in his campaign. If she can not stand the heat she needs to get out of the kitchen.
She has all the status, with it comes responsibility. Same with the bush twins.
