I know that it would never happen...and after 2000, i was pretty down on Al Gore...
BUT-
in light of what took place in florida and the supreme court, and all that has transpired since-
AND MOSTLY-
Due to his continued vigilance on the subject of global warming, and the obvious importance that climate change plays in the future of our country and PLANET...
and in the name of friggin' PARTY UNITY-

I'd like to see every major democratic candidate defer the parties nomination in '08 to Al Gore.

If you haven't seen "An Inconvenient Truth", please hold off critizing this idea until you do.

I realize that this would be seen by many as a thwarting of the democratic process, and not in line with assertaining the "will of the people", and even 6 months ago, i probably would have felt much the same way...all i can say is- see the film.

In 2000 dim son kept bleating on and on about being a "leader" and wanting to "lead"...well...this time we REALLY DO NEED someone who can LEAD and who's willing to take responsibility for making what are going to be some VERY TOUGH decisions.

i should also say that personally, i think it's already too late to stop the oncoming cataclysm, and even if it isn't, humankind is NOT going to change it's ways until too late anyway- that is to say, not until MASSIVE death and destruction has already occurred- perhaps after waves of formerly "tropical" diseases run rampant and kill millions one year...

but i digress.

4. I think JVS
was referring to some earlier posts that stated he would never win the Presidency because of his weight. They were disturbing statements from DU'ers.

2. Me too
I would love to see them all line up behind him and offer their support and expertise. A united Democratic party would leave the pundits speechless.

7. I watched An Inconvenient truth and wondered what happened back in 1992.
I think Gore would have made a much better President thatn Clinton and it would have been so great if the US had started working on these issues back then. Some day we will find out how Clinton beat out the other candidates that year and we will be appalled. Among the other candidates were Jerry Brown, Tom Harkin, Paul Tsongas and Bob Kerrey.

8. Well Tsongas health became an issue, if memory
serves, after the NH primary. That helped Clinton to keep his mojo.
The guy has always been extremely lucky. Unlike poor Gore.

I was thinking almost the same thing yesterday. Al Gore should be 'OUR' ONLY choice for a Presidential candidate in 2008, 'WE' need an intelligent, reasonable uniter.

10. That's my impossible dream...
Gore announces he's running. Everyone else says ok, and steps aside. Gore holds town hall meetings all over the country, many of them televised in place of the primary debates, chooses his VP, and names his Cabinet through the primary season, many chosen from the group who stepped aside for his candidacy. He lays out a vision for the future with a detail and clarity never before seen in modern presidential politics.

11. how about a draft?
instead of waiting for him to announce, the party could invite him to be the candidate...but beyond that- the town hall meetings and the like was prety much along the lines of where i was thinking as well.

12. I wish the party WOULD invite him - but we all know they won't...
There are too many in the party who desperately want the job themselves. There's also the problem of the two factions currently vying for dominance in our party - the corporatists and the populists. Al Gore is a firm populist. IMHO, he's not anti-business, and never has been, but he understands they've gotten too much at the expense of the people. He's moved more firmly into the populist camp, and farther away from the pro-corporatists.

I believe a 'draft' would work, if there were enough people in the US asking. That was tried in '04, but I don't think enough people were asking, and he was still being painted as a 'loser' by the so-called liberal media (that isn't). Now he's the comeback kid, and his image has been reassessed by the media - and more importantly, by Americans in general.

I really think this IS his time.

15. Funny thing about Al
Edited on Thu Dec-07-06 08:01 PM by nam78_two
He is pretty much the same person now that he was back then.

It shows how the "opinion makers" in this country influence stuff. At least now Dowd isn't talking about his earth tone suits or whatever :eyes:

I guess, it takes a media blitz and an Oprah appearance for any good person to get recognition in this country :-/.

I liked him then and I like him now. I think he would be the best choice for 08. Gore and Kerry are decent people and were respectively excellent choices for Dem. nominee.

If I wanted oily "charm" and "personal stories" I would go watch a bad hollywood movie :).

16. Absolutely Al Gore.

Besides, he could be the one to kick McCain's or Juliani's butt, heaven help us if either one of those two idiots got the NeoCon nomination.

And go get little NED LAMONT for a running mate! Take that LieberJerk.

:bounce:

18. i don't think that i'd go with ned lamont- but it certainly would NOT be holyjoe, either.
Edited on Fri Dec-08-06 11:01 AM by QuestionAll
as much as i don't like him as a dlc bilderberger- john edwards might be a good choice- OR, if his star is still shining and rising, perhaps Barak Obama would be the best veep choice. before my Gore conversion, I had been a big wes clark fan, and still am- but i think that secretary of defense might be the best fit for him, this next time around.

as for secretary of state in an Al Gore administration...? the choice there is OBVIOUS:

and just to name another- how about Bill Richardson for "drug czar"...?
