Fox(faux) News declining viewership............
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_news#Fox_News_Channel_personalities_on_radio

"In August 2006 figures were released showing that in the period August 2005 - August 2006, Fox news lost 28% of its prime-time viewers and 7% of its total day viewers. This loss in viewers occurred during a time where rival networks CNN and MSNBC gained 35% and 26% respectively in their total day viewers. <11>"

Maybe the "trailer trash" audience has finally found something else to do, like get "edjucated", I find it hard to believe they ever had the numbers they claimed anyway. I hope the trend continues.

1. I am not comfortable with saying they are all "trailer trash"
I am more comfortable saying that these were busy people. Fox did marketing research on their flashing colors and whole schtick and basically brainwashed many Americans into thinking that they were truly "Fair and Balanced". Kind of like the Walmarting of news.
After all, you can't say it if it is true, can you? Many people have believed that for years.
However, Americans are FINALLY waking up.
Realizing that the shit they have been being fed really is NOT applesauce.
Expect Faux to plummet as the Great Awakening occurs.
I give it another year.

2. I, also, don't like "trailer trash"
Unless you know better, there's no reason to think that a news source is deliberately trying to deceive you. If you grew up on Cronkite, you wouldn't realize they're deliberately lying there unless someone points it out to you. And when you consider that the regular news is leaning more and more to the right, Faux doesn't immediately look that out of touch, anyway.

If anything, I think people are waking up because they're realizing how much BushCo has lied to them. When they see Faux remaining on his side, and when a few liberal voices are finally being heard, people are coming around.

I tend to think it won't go away, though. Murdoch has a lot of money to waste peddling his propoganda. What was it Orson Wells said in Citizen Kane? Something like "If I keep losing money like this, I'll have to quit the business...in 23 years."

3. Bad generalization
The people I know that watch Fox are fairly affluent Republicans. I doubt that "trailer trash" is watching the news on any channel.

8. Maybe we should inform him that
not all people who live in mobile homes are Faux viewers. I live in a mobile home and the term "trailer trash" offends me.

7. I know plenty of otherwise-bright people who watch Fox News.
It really is all about marketing. Besides, if you're watching Fox News, how do you know you're being lied to? It's not as if they TELL you they're lying. The trouble is, news watching is a habit. People generally stick with what they like, and aren't prone two switch unless something drastic happens. Like hiring Katie Couric.

Fox started all the flashy graphics with its sportscasts, and they found that people dig it, so they tried it with news. Or, fake news, and guess what? It works in that market, too. And don't forget, for some reason I simply cannot fathom, it seems to be the network of choice virtually anywhere there is a television in a public place. When was the last time you saw a tv in public playing CNN or even MSNBC? If they're not tuned to sports, they're tuned to Fox, for some reason. Did a freakin' memo go out to every establishment with a tv or something?

4. FOX is to television as the National Enquirer is to print.
They are a yellow rag.

Anyone who takes these people seriously is too lazy (busy if you prefer) to think critically about their programming.

Just because Murdoch has the money to create a near media monopoly and market this trash does not relieve us of our obligation to hold them to some minimal journalistic standards of truth and responsibility.

6. MORONS!!
MORONS is a much better description. I know a couple of mindless F-X viewers, and rush listeners, and I'd classify them as MORONS more than "trailer trash." They are certainly closer to that description than I am, but are not there yet.

They live 100% paycheck to paycheck, and WILLINGLY support the repubs and this economy, even though it's screwing them over completely. This is because they're too stupid to understand and comprehend, i.e. they're MORONS and will blindly follow whatever is put in front of them by lords O'Lielly, Rush & the rest of the conservative bozo's.

10. Their main audience isn't "trailer trash!"
The daytime audience is old folks who are well off enough to be able to sit home instead of greeting people at Wally's or working the takeout window at a fast food joint to supplement social security to subsistence levels.

The evening audience are folks to whom life has been wonderful, the ones who work in dress clothing, keep their hands clean, and think the GOP actually cut their taxes because they're too lazy to do the math. A few of them are people who got sucked into fundy religion and who have been told (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) by their preachers that Pox News was almost as good as Robertson's ranting about politics and that it's the only "liberal" news they are permitted to watch.

In other words, elitist sneering at trailer trash is self defeating. Most of the people out there with poor dentition, marginal housing and no prospects are too busy trying to keep body and soul together on depressed wages in the face of disappearing jobs to watch any news program, ESPECIALLY one they have to pay for.
