Bush: "the fundamental question is:..Are we willing to change as the enemy has changed?" |
|
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/12/07/bush-denial/You know, in all due respect, I’ve been saying it a lot. I understand how tough it is, and I’ve been telling the American people how tough it is. And they know how tough it is.
And the fundamental question is: Do we have a plan to achieve our objective? Are we willing to change as the enemy has changed? If anyone wants a serious answer to these questions, read this:

1. I have to say, I really thought he MIGHT change his tune a bit. |
|
But after that press conference, it's apparent he won't budge. He is insane.

3. Of course it still may be that he has lost control and someone else is in charge now. |
|
I mean someone besides Unca Dickhead.
Only time (probably weeks) will tell.

4. "Are we willing to change as the enemy has changed" also reminds me of Gingrich's |
|
latest efforts to redefine the First Amendment.
Very similar language, as I recall.

9. OT: Gods, that is an adorable looking dog! |
|
:loveya:
Reminds me of a dog I grew up with. (I may have said this to you before, because that dog always prompts the same reaction in me.)

11. She was a German shepherd, collie mix, we were told. |
|
I always assumed that she was a Lassie style collie, but now I'm thinking she must have been border collie. She was a very smart dog. And also a real sweetheart.

12. Mine is an Australian Shepherd -- very similar to border collies |
|
perhaps she was a German Shep/Aussie mix. They make great family dogs, and are really bright and love to learn.

...you're not willing to -- or capable of -- change, because the enemy is a hell of a lot smarter than you are.

I mean, what's the "enemy" got on us?
They kidnap, torture and kill innocent people -- so do we They intimidate/shut down the press and kill journalists -- so do we They manipulate the people with lies and threats of violence -- so do we Their society has changed for the worse -- so has ours They'll go to any lengths to win -- so will we
The list goes on and on.
Of course we created our enemies in Iraq by attacking them for no good reason, not vice versa, so we do have that adaptive skill over them.
All in all I'd say we're doin' a heckuva job of "changing with the enemy". But then, we were the enemy to begin with.

14. the question is, is he ever gonna have the balls to ask his rich base to make sacrifices? |
|
sacrifice their millions in unnecessary tax cuts to fund the war that they wanted?
send their children and nieces and nephews and grandchildren to fight in this war, since we need more troops?

who's GIVEN BinLaden virtually everything he wanted?
Who's made us MORE Russian than the Russians are NOW?
Who's bred absolute CHAOS in the Middle East, and made more terrorists than probably ever existed, AND we have less civil rights, we TORTURE, we bomb innocents?
What's to CHANGE, Georgie? We're already THERE. :)

19. He confuses me. Is he admitting that the 'enemy' in March 2003 was |
|
Saddam and the Baathists? Then it was al-Qaeda foreigners? Then it was Sunni insurgents? And who the hell is it now?

20. He usually means that "the enemy"'s tactics have changed. |
|
It's true that the insurgents' tactics have changed over the course of the war, but that was because the US eventually figured out how to deal with the previous tactics after months of getting whacked upside the head by them. According to "Fiasco," (which I'm currently reading, and which I highly recommend), the US simply had no clue what it was doing in Iraq from Day 1. It's been one long, painful, clueless improvisation, like a really, really bad jazz "composition" that never ends.
