I was in a waiting room with a couple of people-a man and a woman. The conversation quickly turned to politics, and the man (about 55-60) proclaimed that he was a Republican. The woman, who appeared to be a little older (about 60-65) said she was a Democrat.
Interestingly enough, I found talking with the man easier. He hates GWB and the current administration with a great passion, and completely agreed about the really horrible agenda that has been forced on the American people by the regime. At one point he laughed, and said "Kinda makes you wish Ronald Reagan was still the president!"
The woman wasn't really listening, just ranting about how screwed the middle class is under the Bush administration, and she just went on and on without really hearing what the guy was saying, and that he was mainly agreeing with her.
The man was quite reasonable in his opinion, considering that he was an oldtime Republican, from when more Republicans actually were decent folk. Being in Massachusetts, though, it is likely that he has a lot more liberal bias than he will admit to, but I didn't get to hear since I got called into the X-ray room.
I know we have almost all have had such encounters with people since Day One of the illicit regime, and it really is amazing that the terrible few who reside on the far right edge of conservatism are the only really loony ones out there. For most conservatives, they might have voted for Bush as the answer away from Clinton, but many were convinced to vote for Kerry in 2004. IMO, those that voted for the idiot in 2004 were of two minds--the radical religious right who are certainly never going to set foot in reality anyhow, and those who were voting against Kerry, but not necessarily FOR Bush.
I recently heard a comment on a radio talk show that it was not likely that conservatives would try to appeal to the moderates for some time to come, and that their base is, of course, the biggest bunch of idiots the world has ever had the misfortune of knowing. So it goes back to the strategy of trying to get the attention of the moderates out there to ensure we DO win the Presidency in 2008.
It was actually nice to hear a reasonable Republican say how much he hates these idiots. And there are now so many of them that we need to get them on our side for the future!
