Boston Gets A Clue: Local WingNut Talk Radio Ratings Drop Like A Rock
Edited on Thu Dec-07-06 03:25 PM by MannyGoldstein
I just found out that the local insane Right rant radio station fired its entire news team to save money - in large part because the ratings of their barking heads are plummeting. From : http://www.freepress.net/news/19225

"In the key category of 25-to-54-year-olds, DePetro’s share dropped 50 percent, from a 2.2 in the spring to a 1.1 in the summer, according to numbers provided to the Herald.

In the same category, ”Boston This Morning” dropped 68 percent; ”The Scott Allen Miller Show” dropped 18 percent; Rush Limbaugh fell 42 percent; Herald columnist Howie Carr fell 11 percent; Todd Feinburg fell 17 percent; Michael Savage dropped 69 percent and ”Coast to Coast” fell 26 percent."

Looks like Boston's had it with sputtering nutjobs for now.

Anyone know if this is a nationwide trend?

20. Be a real shame, wouldn't it?
I still occasionally catch RKO when I'm in Boston. But I can only take a few minutes at a time. Just like to hear the latest manufactured outrage.

Back in the 70s and 80s they were much more liberal and I listened regularly.
Too bad the went the right-wing whiner route.

Or Percocet, or Vicodin.

3. How appropriate: The Herald reports on failing nutjob-dominated radio stations.

Loser meets loser.

I hope the report is a sign of things to come.

8. I'm hoping it is a nation trend. There has to be a point when it comes to an end. All things do.
The stuff I hear wing nuts say lately is way over the top. I think they are trying to be as controversial as possible to hang on to listeners.

I actually heard him say as he was watching us bombing Iraq (not shock and awe but a later assault,) "I'm getting aroused."

14. It isn't surprising
The thing that struck me listening to these nitwits immediately after the elections was that they DIDN'T GET IT. They were blathering on about the exact same things that the voting public had thoroughly repudiated.

And they still continue. Beck and Medved are worried about animated penguins being part of some liberal conspiracy? They still yap about being "Friends of Freedom"? What idiots!

One of the many great things about the election results is that it seemed to allow the rest of America to finally see these clowns as we have seen them for some time. But the clowns don't seem to realize that what they once used to rile up the righties is now met with increasing apathy if not outright derision.

17. People are desperate to belong to the in crowd
(well, other than those of us who are malcontents and post on DU). The barking heads aren't part of the in crowd any more. They're last year's fashions, discarded lovers, and if you associate yourself with them, proof that you're an unfashionable nerd and out of it.

Pox News has lost viewers, especially in the evening. Their numbers during the day are down 7% since the election, but most of those day viewers are elderly shutins.

The worst the snake oil they peddle, the more they're crashing. I take especial comfort from Savage Weener's fall from grace.

18. KDKA (Pittsburgh) dropped Limbaugh, went with O'Reilly a while; now its
Kramer the stock market guy. They still have a local right-wing bigoted pig (Honsberger) during drive time in the PM.

21. They dropped Kramer - the pig Honzman is now doing 4 hours
Don't know if that is permanent or if he's just working off the time he took off for his broken leg.

I was sorry to see him win a local award for the time slot - but the good news is liberal John McIntire on same station at night won the best talk show host.

so I hear it occasionally. I usually flip to 1410 KQV for traffic.

Edited on Thu Dec-07-06 08:38 PM by Fighting Irish
Sure, the guy needs to switch to decaf, but he knows his shit. Also he doesn't do a political show, which is kind of a relief.

Too bad his radio show's being dropped at the end of the year.

And just to be somewhat accurate, KDKA lost Lowbrow to Clear Channel's new FM talk station. But in Minneapolis/St. Paul, KSTP dropped Lowbrow and Insannity to go toward a more local approach and get away from all the wingnut talk. CC had to flip one of their FM stations to talk just to keep Rush in the market.

25. Yikes!
They're thinking about hiring Tom Finneran as a host...

Sources confirmed to the Herald that WRKO brass has been talking to former House Speaker Tom Finneran about a possible on-air role. The station has been interested in Finneran for some time.

Finneran was indicted last year on federal charges of perjury and obstruction of justice and the case goes to trial in January.

Sources say Finneran has been trying to get on WRKO on and off since Andy Moes died in 2001. Moes was the co-host of ”Blute and Moes in the Morning.” Finneran has not returned phone calls.

(For all you non MA residents... Finneran was once the hard-fisted Speaker of the House and very much a DINO).

30. For information on how "Talk Radio" is doing -- check this link:
Edited on Thu Dec-07-06 09:53 PM by Radio_Lady
This is the link to www.talkers.com

The online link for Talkers Magazine, Springfield, Massachusetts monthly magazine.

Here's a list of the top talkers from SPRING 2006 (I believe it's updated twice a year)

From: http://www.talkers.com/main/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=17&Itemid=34

Maybe there's something more current, but check any new information from www.pdxradio.com tonight.

FYI -- KPOJ 620 AM, the local progressive station here in Portland, Oregon, is running tons of PSA (Public Service Announcements). Not a good sign.
