8. Joe was fantastic! Hope this one is up in vid soon!
wolfie did give in some time for him to speak afterall. Passionate speech, logical why why why's.

Why is it okay for U.S corporations to make money off the people of Venezuela (eg. GM sells a lot of cars there) but it's not okay when our poor can somehow benefit... why not cut off all trade then? Citgo gives 80 million to MS charity, are we asking them to take That money back?

Joe was great.
Another spark of hope. Yes, Virginia, There is Some Hope.

14. no fan either, but ...
if Joe Kennedy's Venezuelan oil buy makes the news on CNN in such a a negative light, you'd think that it's somehow more honorable to let "our" oil companies gouge and then ignore the poor and elderly on fixed incomes, leaving them to freeze to death in their homes.

As Kennedy pointed out, he bought oil for the program from Venezuela last year too, but it didn't make it to CNN News last year!

9. This has been Joe Kennedy's life's work!
Unlike so many, Joe Kennedy actually walks the walk.

Kennedy's Citizens Energy Corp has been up and running for at least 25 years, delivering free and low cost energy to the poor.

Yes, the commercials mention that the 40% off oil is from Citgo, and "our friends in Venezuela" but so what? As Joe has said, no one else has ever offered him a discount on fuel for the program.

Joe Kennedy learned well from his father Robert F. Kennedy what doing the right thing really means.

15. Joe II
Edited on Thu Dec-07-06 05:02 PM by G_Leo_Criley
(edited to correct to Joe II)

Joseph Jr. died in World War II. He was Robert F. and JFK's brother. Joe II is Bobby's son, and Robert Jr's brother.

It speaks volumes to me that no other oil company has participated in this program, let alone begun one of their own! After the bloated profits they have made in recent quarters you'd think that some PR guy would have realized that it couldn't hurt public perception for BIG OIL to give away some of their oil to the freezing poor (sort of like Old Man Rockefeller handing out dimes to street waifs!) BUT NO!!! Big oil just said FUCK THE POOR! Who cares what anybody thinks of us? Where else are they gonna go to get their oil fix! They oughta be glad they're only payin" $2.29 a gallon for gas.

19. $2.29 a gallon ...
and when it goes down a few pennies we're all supposed to be thrilled.

How magnanimous of big oil. :sarcasm:

You do have to wonder why some genius PR guy doesn't see the simplicity involved, but I can hear them in the boardrooms now .... "Oh, no we can't do that. Then we'd have to do it for everyone! There goes our bottom line! Blah blah blah..."

Bunch of greedheads extraordinaire. :grr:

17. Why SHOULDN'T there be cooperation among democratic countries on
common progressive goals--such as helping the poor? The Bush Junta's attitude toward Venezuela is anti-democratic and brutal, on its face. They want fascists in charge there, to shovel oil profits to the super-rich. They tried a coup. They tried a crippling oil strike. They tried pouring our tax money into the political opposition. And they've tried many other pressures to punish Venezuela for electing a leftist (majorityist) government. Is that any way to act? Joe Kennedy knows how to act. You COOPERATE with democratic governments on projects of common progressive purpose. But, of course, the Bushites have no progressive purpose. Their purpose is to steal other peoples' wealth and kill them if they object. I just wanted to point out what's NORMAL, what a good government does, what proper relations are among democratic countries, because our country has gone so far off the deep end in fomenting trouble around the world, supporting dictators, and undermining popularly supported democratic governments because they don't go along with Bushite "policy." How could there be ANY question about Joe Kennedy asking for, and accepting, Venezuela's help in keeping the poor from freezing to death--when none of the bastards who sit at the top of US oil giants given a damn, and none of the bastards in the regime they installed in the White House give a damn? Kennedy is doing the proper and normal and RIGHT thing, and the opposite of that--shunning Venezuela--is the selfish, greedy policy of global corporate predators and their frontmen Bush and Cheney--an abnormal, ugly aberration.

18. amen!
Amen to that Peace Patriot.

Notice that when it suits "our" needs, the leader(s) of this country converse freely with leaders who enslave, imprison or otherwise abuse their own citizens.

If Venezuelan oil is going to keep more fixed income elderly and poor warm in the winter then... wonderful. The right thing to do is to help them to get it.
