Any Donald Westlake fans? |

I'm nearly finished reading Bob Woodward's "State of Denial" and have thought all the way through that, if not for the horrific tragedy of the occupation, it reads like a Dortmunder messed-up caper novel.

Perhaps the funniest book ever written. I was in the hospital recently and found a book of novellas by him, Evan Hunter (McBain, his last writing, SLASHING at Bush) and Walter Mosely. Good reading.

7. Drowned Hopes shares a chapter with Joe Gores' 1992 DKA novel 32 Cadillacs |

Gores and Westlake met on a train in Spain and hatched a plan to share a chapter in their respective upcoming novels. I read them side by side and roared with laughter. Scene: Driveway of Dortman hideout - Ken Warren (32 Cadillacs), a big dude with a serious speech defect and greatest carhawk in the world tries to heist the stolen car that getaway driver, Andy Kelp stole from a fake doctor, a gypsy, with Hilarious results.

Walter Mosley is a god. Don't agree with his politics that much (he's pretty much a commie), but he sure can write.
I've read all the Dortmunder stories, including the shorts he wrote for Playboy. That'd be a great fallback Halloween costume, btw. Just wear regular clothes and a downtrodden expression and go as John Dortmunder.

All the characters are great. I'ts a while since I read one, but isn't Dortmunder one of the names, then there's the taxi driver who puts salt in his beer!

5. I love all of his books. |
|
I think I may have read just about all of them, at least all of those he publishes under "Donald Westlake". I believe he's written under several other names, none of which I can think of right now

He always has a cast of improbable characters...together they prove out Murphy's Laws.
