Bill Richardson Announces Presidential Run! [UPDATE -- FOX LIES]
Edited on Thu Dec-07-06 06:55 PM by Cheney Killed Bambi
Gov. Bill Richardson (D-NM) has told FOX News that he is running for president in 2008.

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Bill_Richardson_to_run_for_president_1207.html

I am fan of Bill Richardson. A governor with foreign policy expertise and credentials. A Latino from a western state. Sounds perfect to me!

UPDATE FROM DAILY KOS -- FOX NEWS IS LYING

Richardson's campaign says that they did not announce, and that Fox is full of shit (not in those words, of course). They're putting the video of his appearance up on YouTube and I'll post it as soon as it's up.

2. I got to know who he was via Imus in the morning. My question
is, and it really bothers me, why, God why would he make this important announcement as a Democrat on Fox??? I think that alone was a very poor decision

he is pondering it, but will let us all know in January...Jack Cafferty ripped him a new one with his statement that the fence is just a political ruse...

5. Great -- another pro-business Democrat
He seems like a good guy, but he is just anotehr Democrat who has chosen to side with the interests of Corporate America over those of workers and consumers and average citizens.

19. Three letters -- DLC......among other positions he's taken
As I said abive, Richardson seems like a good guy and a good governor.

However he is the flavor of Democrat that is trying to reject populist liberalism in favor of a corporatist "third way" which basically is why the democratic Party has become so diluted in the last 30 years.

I just think that for president, we need someone who will bring the Democrats back to a clear choice in the ongoing struggle against "the People versue the Power_ (a phrase Al Gore used briefly in 2000).

22. Gore and Edwards seem to have mended their ways though
Both have evolved towards more populist and liberal positions.

17. I am not sure this is true.
It seems to me he spoke about ending the drug war. I recall having a very favorable impression of him for that alone.

6. Why?
I think some of these politicos just want to run for their ego's.

And probably to raise, i.e. steal....some money via campaign contributions.

Really. Honestly. Does he even think he has a chance? He'll never admit it, but the answer is NO. Not a snowball's chance in hell.

The Democratic party needs to coalesce around the true potential candidates in '08, and sorry....Mr. Richardson is not one of them.

He'll get votes, no doubt about that. But win the primaries? Doubtful. I'd bet money that he won't win a single one before he eventually gives his "pulling out" regrettably speech sometime in early '08. After he's "siphoned" some campaign contributions.

7. I think a governor will be a much better candidate than a senator
Senators just have too much baggage- too many votes in their record.

I like Richardson. This is good news!

20. I remember thinking, "Bill who? ARKANSAS???? Give me a break! This guy will be gone in a week!"
That initial reaction was less than 100% accurate, as it turned out.
