Two Million Iraqi Refugees
Just got this email from Refugees International, and wanted to share part of it with you:

"Our two sons were kidnapped. As Sunnis, we were told to leave or die."

"I was kidnapped and nearly died because I am Shi'a."

"As a Christian painter, my life was at risk in Iraq."

"I was shot three times because I worked for western NGOs."

These are just a few of the voices of Iraqi refugees, from our web piece, "Iraqi Refugees: Stories of Persecution and Flight," http://www.refugeesinternational.org/content/article/detail/9683
documenting a neglected aspect of the crisis in Iraq. Few governments want to discuss this situation, but Refugees International, as always, is alerting the world to another humanitarian crisis.

What's happening:

* Iraq's misery is migrating.
* There are now about two million refugees who are seeking protection and shelter in Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Iran and other countries.
* As many as 3,000 Iraqis are fleeing the danger and violence every day.

What needs to be done:

* The U.S., the UN and host countries must develop a coherent regional approach to the influx of refugees.
* Donors must support an expansion of programs by the UN refugee agency.

Check out the link above to find more details.

1. check this out
Has the ISG even mentioned this??? :grr:

<snip>

"If I die, it will be when God chooses. I'm not afraid," he said, sitting in his office in a suit and tie. "But I was thinking 'What will my family do if something happens to me?' This week I made up my mind to leave."

The exodus -- which would be equivalent in terms of its population to a million Americans emigrating every month -- is hitting business, deadening the city's economy, which briefly flourished when the U.S.-led invasion ended sanctions.

"You get the feeling there's no one left," said shopkeeper Wisam Badia, 40, at his small store in central Baghdad. "They're either afraid to go out -- or they're fleeing the country."

to set up Sunni relief centers with no American troops. Basra and Shi'a southern Iraq should be given to Syria and Iran to set up Shi'a relief centers with no American troops. The prevention of a mass genocide needs to take paramount importance.
