DU made "cnsnews.com":
**********************Quote******************
Liberal Grassroots Rallying Around Obama
By Susan Jones
CNSNews.com Senior Editor
December 07, 2006

(CNSNews.com) - A website used to disseminate "liberal and progressive ideas" has just launched a Barack Obama discussion group to promote the Illinois senator's political career.

Democratic Underground said the mission of its new group - which appeared on DU's website Wednesday evening -- "is to discuss this rising star in the Democratic Party and to share news and information about his life, career and political future."

The website welcomes "DUers who are supporters of Senator Obama for President, or have a positive view of the Senator and are open to an Obama candidacy in 2008."

that works for CNS. Not gonna say who it is, though. His head was exploding when I saw him back in November, about 2 weeks after the election.

8. Yep, I believe the "c" stands for "conservative."
I like perusing cnsnews.com, worldnetdaily.com (or worldNUTdaily.com), and newsmax.com occasionally to see what is up (so, I guess I'm as guilty as they are in terms of wanting to know what the other side is up to).

It's just good to know we're popular.

19. CNS News -- offshoot of the Media Research Center
The MRC is a conservative "media watchdog group" formed to combat the "bias in the liberal media" and is and has been funded sincd its inception by a variety of right wing foundations and supporters.

CNS was founded under the name "Conservative News Service", but they were unable to trademark that, so The "C" in "CNS" was changed to "Cybercast".

It's one of the things that twisted around the mind of my one Republican friend; when he started reading their news page and watching FauxSnooze, MAN! did he get twisted around.

26. Ah ...
they seem to still be on the conservative side of the aisle, but they present both sides at least, without being complete, obvious shills for the RNC.

Actually, of the rightwing sites I mentioned, they are the most 'balanced' (if we want to venture that far). They at least quote the other side, without a whole lot of diatribe.

16. This article is inaccurate on some important points
Edited on Thu Dec-07-06 08:27 PM by Elad
It portrays the new Barack Obama Group as an endorsement of Obama for the Democratic nomination by DU, which is not the case. We also have a Hillary Clinton Group, Al Gore Group, John Edwards, John Kerry, etc. The Groups are there for members of this website who support those Democratic figures to discuss issues themselves. Their presence (or lack of presence) does not indicate an official preference of the administrators of DU one way or the other, the admins simply respond to member requests for Groups.

Also, the article says:

The website welcomes "DUers who are supporters of Senator Obama for President, or have a positive view of the Senator and are open to an Obama candidacy in 2008."

This is entirely inaccurate. That quote is from the mission statement of the Barack Obama Group, it is not representative of who is welcome on DU as a whole.

Supporters of all candidates are welcome on DU. According to our rules:

Who We Are: Democratic Underground is an online community for Democrats and other progressives. Members are expected to be generally supportive of progressive ideals, and to support Democratic candidates for political office. Democratic Underground is not affiliated with the Democratic Party, and comments posted here are not representative of the Democratic Party or its candidates.

Edited on Thu Dec-07-06 10:32 PM by Maat
Hey, we have a John Kerry group, etc., etc. One sees how diverse DUers are just by looking at the diversity of groups.

But, as we say out here in California, "There's no such thing as bad publicity!" Moreover, we get even more publicity when we correct any misimpressions!
