Words change, and anyone who spends any time around teenagers knows that the word Gay has been getting redefined over the last few years. Lot's of kids use it today in place of "Stupid" without any homophobic underpinnings. Gay once meant happy, now it means homosexual, and by the looks of it in twenty years it'll have a totally different meaning.

Gay, in the context of that photo, was almost certainly meant to indicate "stupid". That may offend some gay people, but I'm sure that thirty years ago lots of straight Christian women named Gay were offended when the meaning changed that time. Like it or not, language changes.
