The "Decider" is back
Watching George W. Bush sitting, grim faced and subdued, between Baker and Hamilton on Wednesday as they handed him the report that branded his Iraq policy a complete and utter disaster I thought that finally something had broken through the thick bones of his skull into the seeming void within.

I was wrong.

By Thursday the "Decider" was back with a snippy remark "It’s bad in Iraq. Does that help?" followed by his trademark cackle.

Ms. Pelosi, I know you've said that impeachment is off the table but perhaps this might be time to reconsider.

--The loss of almost 3,000 American lives and the crippling of thousands more
--The deaths of untold thousands of innocent Iraqis
--The devastation of our national standing around the world
--The resurgence of the Taliban in Afghanistan
--The outbreak of civil war in Iraq--by now reduced to total, lethal chaos
--His party losing both houses of Congress
--His father breaking down publicly

None of these things have altered his perceptions one bit. Perhaps the only thing that would break through his arrogance and stupidity would be for him and his mentor Dick Cheney to face the prospect of ridden out of the White House on a rail--and facing criminal charges as ordinary citizens not protected by executive privilege.

We, the American people are being held hostage.

2. What brain--I think that there are a few corrupted memory chips in there that's all.
He's sort of like a computer infected with spy ware--you think you've solved the problem and then there it is the next day flashing messages enticing you to buy porn, viagra, real estate in Florida or whatever.

Bush gets knocked back a step but then the next day he's back as arrogant and condescending as ever.

14. Ode to a Toad!
George wore fancy boots and cowboy hats, when he came into town.
Now he hides out from broad daylight ,and sleeps hangin' up-side-down,
He's has lost that goofy smirk, but he's replaced it with a frown,
His BuShIt marches on.

Glory Glory what a loser,
Glory Glory what a loser,
Glory Glory what a loser,
His BuShIt marches on.

dysfunction, the feelings of the american public and how james baker is trying to fix it. You couldn't do it better in a 900 page book.

6. You're list of changes would seem to be a bit more substantial
than a hummer, but perhaps that's just because I am looking at it through a crazed an delusional liberal perspective and don't really understand what morality is.

7. The guy has
no concept of what "victory" involves, beyond the audiences who clap for him. Hence, he only views defeat in terms of people not approving of him. He does not seem capable of understanding that the people who are suffering and dying because of his aggression in Iraq are -- or were -- very real people, individuals who wanted to live, to breath, to enjoy their life with their families. But they aren't real to him. They are props in his play. The Congress needs to step up to the plate now.

10. Will a 27% approval rating on the war wake him up?
Or a 71% disapproval rating? That's what is reported on a thread by radfringe. Or will the disapproval ratings have to be even higher than that for him to wake up? If so, I'm thinking the ratings will, at least, wake up the Republican leadership-they have got to see that it is in their own self-interest to quietly go to the Oval Office for a little talk, much like Barry Goldwater did with Nixon back in 1974. My only worry is that it will leave Cheney in charge.

11. Nope, it's the liberal media. Why don't you understand that?
Low poll ratings--no problem. He's the Decider.

13. Bush reminds me
of some of the fellows I used to deal with when I helped run a forensic group in the county jail. Some of the guys were incapable of accepting responsibility for their own actions. They were not able to grasp that the victims of their behaviors were distinct human beings, with feelings and needs separate from the inmate. And when these fellows were confronted, and felt some pressure associated with negative consequences for their actions, they often had unhealthy responses. They became increasingly paranoid, projected mistaken "motives" on others, blamed the victims of their antisocial behaviors, and attempted to "protect" themselves by becoming more threatening. I think that Bush is this way. His mind is in jail.

16. Agreed. His blatant disregard for the will of the people...
Is not only very poor leadership, but suggests he is truly an egomaniac.

I used to think impeachment was a waste of precious time; sadly, his narrow minded view remains rooted in delusion and recent events have lead me to a shift. We must IMPEACH ASAP! Even started a thread to that effect yesterday.

How many more disasters must occur before Bush opens his eyes???? Maybe he can't (or won't).

21. It will probably require the threat of impeachment.. Which is why. . .
Edited on Fri Dec-08-06 02:57 PM by pat_k
. . .it is so critical that we challenge each and every member of Congress to introduce or co-sponsor articles and make the case. Bush and Cheney are committing war crimes in plain sight. They are committing their criminal surveillence program in plain sight. Their public claims to "unitary" power trash the principle of consent -- the sole moral principle on which our Constitution is founded.

If the Congressional leadership gets serious about impeachment, we might see Bush and Cheney out by President's day.

From http://journals.democraticunderground.com/pat_k/12

. . .Republicans are likely to be VERY motivated to pressure Bush and Cheney to take the resignation "exit strategy."

Republicans may not be willing to defend the indefensible for long. When Bush nullified McCain's anti-torture amendment (which passed with over 90 votes) he slapped them in the face. They would be hard pressed to defend Bush for abusing signing statements nullify the overwhelming will of the people in order to keep torture "on the table." Warner, Graham, McCain, and Collins (may have been others I'm not recalling) came out against the "War Criminals Protection Act." The "compromise" they got was not much of one, it just shifted the responsibility for actually approving torture to Bush (as opposed to approving it themselves and becoming War Criminals). Specter dismissed the WH defense of the criminal surveillance program as absurd. There are some other "rational" Republicans (Snowe, Hagel, and Lugar).

Repubs will certainly try the "Un-Patriotic to attack the President in War time" bit (the only "attack" on impeachment we have heard out of them) but that doesn't go far if Repubs aren't willing to defend against the indefensible charges (which they aren't even doing now).

Bush and Cheney are an albatross that many Republicans would be happy to get rid of. . .

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/pat_k/12">More. . .
