Those who want Gore to run in 08 PLEASE check in!
Edited on Fri Dec-08-06 03:43 PM by Cascadian
Just wanting to send greetings and see how many of you are out there. My hope is that we can get Al to run again through using the grassroots movement. The same way Howard Dean got his campaign going.

I just hope there won't be any dirty underhanded moves from certain Corporate Democrats with the people's choice of candidate this time around as well.

7. I welcome his candidacy
I urge him to run. At this point I am a General Clark supporter but we have so many awesome potential candidates and President Gore is way up high on that list. If President Gore is nominated I will roll up my sleeves, break out my check book and get busy. I would also urge President Gore to ensure General Clark finds a prominent position in his next administration.

We need to show the country that, as a matter of fact, we are the party of ideas and we have a whole slew of superstars to share them with you.

26. Here is how I see the candidacy.
It is going to be the DLCers vs the people. I am convinced Al Gore will no longer be beholden to the DLC like he did before and could be a formidable candidate. I do not like the way the DLC people are already shoving Hillary in our faces. I do not think she would win. It was the people who won the election last month and it should be the people who truly choose the nomination for president. I think Gore is that man and I would want General Clark as his running mate. That ticket would unify the Democrats.

33. God Bless America and the Land of the Free
I disagree with you slightly teammate. I'd rather see the General as SECDEF or SECSTATE (if not President.) I think he would be much more of an asset in one of those positions then as VEEP. It is nice to have so much talent to choose from.

11. If Al wants to run, Al should run. I'd be delighted to see it happen.
That said, I sense he may not want to...I think he feels a responsibility to more than the US, and his focus is on the doggone planet. Who knows, maybe he's the ideal UN ambassador under a Democratic president?

There's so much speculation about who might run, still--so far, the potential field has some very bright people with a variety of viewpoints, which will make for interesting debates. I don't see nearly that level of quality on the GOP side...

208. I don't think Obama's a good choice....
He's a good senator but please give the man some time to do his job. He was ONLY a state senator before assuming his current role. I think at his current age and level of experience he would be a horrible president being inexperienced and naive. He's too good-hearted to be in that position at the moment.

I don't know why everybody's elevating him so soon but he won't have a snowball's chance in hell in Middle America to win because of the obvious racism but also because like I noted the inexperience.

Give the good senator at least till the end of his first term before we talk presidential aspirations. lol

He's going to run, you know. He's just biding his time until it's strategic for him to announce.

Al Gore has changed since 2000 and he's gonna shock the political world with his rhetoric. That's an amazing thing to say, but it's a clear indication of just how bad things have descended in the political arena. We've not had a true leader run in so many years, that people have forgotten just what that looks like and sounds like.

Go, Al. Go!

40. How about Gore/Clark?
Having Wesley Clark on the ticket would solidify the candidacy and even bring the centrists on board. It would be unstoppable to anything the DLC would want to force on us. People will argue that Clark is DLC but I think he tend to take an independent line when he has to. The Gore/Clark ticket would be a Dream Team.

This could sink him pretty quick.

Only way to avoid media sabotage would be for him to act preemptively and call the corporate media on it's glaring RW bias. But nat'l DEM leaders *rarely* go there.

Make that *never*... now that I think about it.

I would love to see Gore run for President. How good would it feel to be really REALLY excited about one's candidate again?

I believe America is sick of being ashamed and embarrassed and used and wasted and lied to by their "commander in chief"... I think most everyone wants a president who can be trusted and respected by the majority. How great would it be to have a president who actually INSPIRED people to do great things? A president who made us proud to be an American again?

Is it even possible?

So yeah.. Gore for Pres '08!!

I think he's come around, found himself again, ditched the makeover artists and gurus and has started acting on pure passion. Edited on Fri Dec-08-06 04:27 PM by Doosy
I'm very afraid he's made himself a laughingstock with his global warming thing, though. I think that's how most Americans see him. It also didn't float too well that he kept questioning the election. I'm not saying he was wrong or right, I'm saying I think this is how most of America feels.

171. Welcome to DU
Not sure where you've heard his global warming documentary has made him a laughingstock. To who? He's up for an Oscar, and when I saw him on Oprah the other day, the audience and Oprah seemed impressed, not amused.

I think when "most of America" finds out more on Gore, they'll be as impressed with him as so many of us are.

263. Laughing stock? Questioning the election???????????
I hardly think he is a laughing stock. Don't know where you have been, but he clearly is intelligent and well informed. And 'questioning the election'??? Excuse me, but he won the fucking election, the Supreme Court stole it from him. And I would beg to differ that 'most of America feels' that way. Again, don't know who you have been hanging with, but I don't know anyone who feels that way anymore. Of course, I hang with rational, people-loving liberals.

I admire and respect him more than I can convey on a keyboard.

In my "perfect world", Gore would announce he is running as late as possible and take the primaries by storm.
The shitty media loves a comeback story and may even be fair to him.

Then he blows away whatever shitbag the repugs put up in the election. I know quite a few former bushbots who told me they will vote for Gore over ANYONE.

Gore is our best hope
I want to say only hope, but I expect to have to resign myself to an alternative.

He's the rightful President, and it's the right time in history for someone with his abilities and vision. I think he's the one candidate who would run in '08 for the good of the country, not to please his own ego. There might have been a time in Gore's life when running for President might have been done out of vanity, but I think that has been burned away by the last six years. That's why back then he played like the other politicians, and now he speaks from the heart.

Gore needs to understand that if he doesn't run in '08, his conscience will plague him for the rest of his life.

From my slightly distanced perspective, he stands head and shoulders above the other available candidates in terms of his achievements, the stands he's taken on the issues and, his charisma and presence. He can win, and he'd be a good person to have won, and that's a rare combination!

Then, what's with this Hillary vs Obama (who hasnt even declared) crap?

Time to tell these TV heads to stick to their own party. Especially you, Tucker.

Hillary is a Corporat not a Democrat, and that's why they want her. She's safe to Wall St.

If he came out like he has been recently, the rove/atwater playbook would roll right off him.

I think Gore/Kucinich, Gore Edwards, or even Gore Clark would work for me just fine. I imagine Gore/Obama would be fine, but I would like to see Barak do more of the sort of out in the public pitching policy work that Gore is doing now.

Don't get me wrong, Obama seems like a great candidate, with a bit more experience/record behind him.

Oy. Already the asshats in the MSM are beginning to take pot shots at Al. That's a good sign, tho. Their probably scared shitless if he does run -- and wins by a landslide. In any case, he's got my vote from the git go. Please Al, run!

190. I would LOVE Al to run in 2008
Especially just to see the look of shock on Nora O'Donnell's face. She said today on MSM to a Dem Strategist (don't remember his name) that she just didn't understand all this "Al Gore, Al Gore, and more Al Gore talk". The strategist just looked like what doesn't the idiot understand? He was very complimentary of Hillary and Obama but said they both need to watch out if Gore decides to run. I really believe that most of the media don't want Gore to run in 2008 because they treated him so badly last time that he will barely give them the time of day in '08. I think they're afraid of what he will say about them and their ass-backwards way of reporting the "news". I doubt Gore would play any of their little games and go along with what stories they decide to script for the election. That being said, he should only run if he truely wants to as its a grueling process.

200. a grassroots plan
We need to work out a step by step plan, a flow chart, to get Al to run and to get Hillary to not run. We have less than two years. We will call this plan an AlGoreithym. Step one is to answer all his reasons for not running with reasons for running. Convince him. Step 2 is to convince Democratic voters that Al Gore is our savior.

205. Considering he's already the president I don't know how a third term would work out.....
But all cynicism aside, I think Al Gore would be great. In fact, personally I'm begging under my breath that he come out of the woodwork and take up the mantle because I'm not exactly a big Hillary fan. She's alright where she is in the senate but in my opinion she's got too much baggage to be the commander in chief. Also considering the Rethuglikkkans don't really have a candidate who has a ghost of a hell of a chance of winning except perhaps Mitt Romney they should seriously be worried.

Edited on Fri Dec-08-06 11:28 PM by RestoreGore
Run as your own free man unencumbered by any party's politically toxic bs and I'll back you 1000 percent. Knock the walls down of the corporate/military/industrial/media complex that does have Republicans AND Democrats beholding to it, and pledge to kick ALL THE CROOKS out regardless of party and bring us a new Jeffersionian era. Anything less will just be the same, and this country will not survive it. Oh, and please don't let anyone talk you into doing it just to get even or to provide entertainment. I think you have more integrity than to fall for the pundit, media, political operative hype. But personally, I believe you are serving and can better serve the world by continuing to focus specifically on the climate crisis which you will not be able to do if you break your momentum on this midstream. You waited thirty years to be able to do this YOUR WAY. Don't compromise for ANYONE, and if there will be no choice but to do it as you had to before, don't do it. You are a great man and advocate for our planet who will accomplish great things regardless of your address. It isn't worth your soul.

224. But is that not because he isn't in politics?
Even he has claimed he is uncomfortable campaigning and is not a good politician. I don't think he should do anything unless he really wants to on that score. And I really think that all of the pushing him to run will take precious time away from what we should be doing on a grassroots level, and that is helping him institute legislation NOW to deal with this crisis our planet is in that we continue to exacerbate daily. I don't think Mother Nature is going to wait until the next political convention to hold off. She is already speaking very loudly in response to our ignorance.

If he does not wish to run, he should not. But if puts himself on the plate of the primary where I am at, I could easily support Al. Of course, other issues remain important.

222. Al Gore is lookin' good; he's even letting his sense of humor show
He's passionate about the issues, like the environment; and mellow (and witty) about the past, like having been mugged and robbed by Bushco.

I think by simply following his passions and letting his true nature show, Al has made himself into a better candidate than he ever was before. I've been very pleasantly surprised at how many other voters apparently feel the same, as witness the poll numbers.

We Democrats have a number of good prospects who are going to be running in the primaries. I hope Al Gore is one of them, along with Wes Clarke and John Edwards. I'd love to have the opportunity to agonize over which best candidate to choose.

Hekate

Oh yeah!! I'm in for Al! I am sooo hoping he already has a plan to announce at the very last minute.

I keep trying to read his face when I see him on the talk show circuit. He leaves himself open to the possibility on every single show. "I don't plan on running but..." " I don't have any plans to run, at this time."

He's one of the few (Democrats/politicians) I talk openly about in my conservative community and, surprisingly, people here have been positive about him.

He has to withstand a primary run to see whether or not he can pull it off.

If he can't make it through the Democratic primary, I'm afraid he's a dead duck. A lot of stuff has to happen for this to come to fruition. But I'm with him if he wants to try!

I'm going to put up the picture someone else posted months ago:

297. Remember: GORE/L I E B E R M A N WON in 2000. BUT----
can he still win again? Apparently, most Americans weren't so turned off by Lieberman (despite the fact he's Jewish!) so they still voted for Gore. I don't know where I stand on this just yet. I'm concerned about whether Americans might be turned off by the environmental awareness. They may not be able to see the effects in their backyards so easily which makes it so hard for them to grasp the issue. If Americans can become more environmentally aware then perhaps Gore will have a better chance. I have a few other concerns....

301. The concept that the environment is an "elitist" issue
Especially for the poor in this country who will perhaps on the whole not see it as important as their need to survive now. Out of work starving, homeless Americans I would think place other priorities as well. And that is part of the reality about all of this that is dismissed that angers me when it is simply ignored for all of these romantic threads about 2008 as if a coup didn't happen in 2000, and an elitist corporate war machine doesn't really run this government, and elections are completely fair as if they really count anyway with the highest bidder getting the votes in Washington DC. Perhaps when for once there is a real thread about the reality of what is entailed in this without just being political cheerleaders, we can accomplish something. Don't get me wrong, I love Al Gore ( or I wouldn't have spoken out so strongly to see him on the ticket in 2004 before my eyes were opened about how this deceptive system works,) but we need to be real about this.

308. The environment is not to be used as a door stop.
Is there nothing here that doesn't have a cold political angle to it? So in other words, people would condone him being deceitful to the American people and using this issue just to get what and where he wants? I don't believe he is that kind of man and would be HEARTBROKEN if he were.

And honestly, if he has to try this hard just to get his foot in the door after serving for over a quarter of a century already, doesn't that tell you something sad about the American people? I don't think some have any idea what it is like beyond their modems. And don't get me wrong...if he wanted it in line with his words regarding this system, he is more than qualified to attempt to go for it. But some people really can't get beyond that "dream state" they seem to be in regarding all of this.

People who are poor, starving, homeless, working poor Americans don't only want to hear about melting glaciers as important as that is. That is just the reality of it. They need affordable quality HEALTHCARE, JOBS, and FOOD and a GOOD education for their children, and for many that IS THE ISSUE. They cannot make the connection, and it will take TIME for them to be able to do that. And we also need to see the repeal of the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, and Bush and his thugs impeached, as well as a complete ouster of ALL electronic voting machines in this country. And let us not even get stated on foreign policy. Will Al Gore support Israel unflinchingly? And if so, how would that affect the Middle East? That isn't just going to go away becasue the damage has already been done.

It isn't just about the environment when doing this (which is why this crisis was ignored by Washington for thirty years already and really why I have no faith in it to get anything much done on it now,) and unfortunately I do not believe that you can use that one issue alone to "get your foot in the door." And a door to what? A sleazy snake pit in Washington DC?

The question then is, would it really be worth his while to take his attention and complete focus off of this crucial MORAL issue to attempt what well may also be a loss? There would have to be a swing of momentum unlike what we have ever seen in this country before on this issue FIRST to persuade him to ever enter the political arena again instead of just harrassing him to run, and frankly if he never does I will be happy because he has done more for the climate crisis in six months than he ever could in four years in that snake pit.

355. Gore Will Certainly Address These Issues!! He is behind in the polls, B U T
It's early to say. I mean the environment issue could be framed to be important to urban populations, as it is so tied to people's health.

See: http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/sci_tech/highlights/010319_air.shtml "...Tens of Thousands of People die each year from breathing poor quality air"

and

http://www.pbs.org/now/transcript/transcript117_full.html which is just an overall scary FAQ sort of thing.

But if he can't poll well enough then why go for it if he's going to be a failure like Ned Lamont.

I think Gore may have a chance at picking up a decent sized bi-partisan following that might make him electable. Like you said tho' gotta pick up on more issues and get down with the locals.

394. BTW: poor, starving, homeless, working poor don't vote. Which is probably why their issues
are being ignored. It is harder for them to vote because they may have to take a bus to the polls. And busses don't run every 10 minutes especially in small cities. 2ndly if you have 2 jobs, like many of the working poor, you may not be able to get to a voting booth on time. Or if there are delays such as there were in some states, you are not going to wait in line with the possibility of losing some hourly pay, etc. I'm sure there are probably other reasons why these populations don't vote but can't think off the top of my head.

Other Americans many times unfortunately just don't care about them. In fact, the Christians are becoming so twisted in some cases that they say that if you have acheived monetary success then you are being approved of by Gawd. They really do vote for American Idol winners more than for President of the Free World. I'd hate to see the number of voters who voted in my state for the various offices this past election.

My bottom line is I'll vote for the candidate who will most likely beat the Republican candidate. Because well you know how they tried to get rid of overtime pay, privatize Social Security, select anti-choice, anti-medical pot justices, etc. Get someone in and then fix him/her to do the right thing.

He'd be the best choice if the primary were held today. And the obvious choice when we elect the electors.

Veep is less important, but either Edwards or Lieberman would be fine. Or Clark. Or Dean. Not quite sold on Obama or Rodham/Clinton, but veep selection is a long way off.

351. Gore is the only one who I can enthusiastically support
I will not vote for Hillary Clinton and I'm not enthused about the rest of the potential field. If Hillary is the nominee, I pray she gets crushed in a landslide. That would be the best way to kill the Clinton myth and Triangulation theory in one fell swoop.

But here's the problem I see for 2008. I think that John McCain is going to win the Republican nomination. He already has been prostituting himself to Bush's donors and to the Xtian fundies. He still has a way to go to win the nomination, but I think that Rove and & Bush will back McCain so that the Neo-cons and corporate robber barons can keep one branch of government. If McCain secures the Rove-Bush machine, they will do for him what they did for Bush and McCain offers a better illusion of competency and strength than Bush did. Also, the American people may be gun shy about Democrats controlling all 3 branches of government in 2008, like the Republicans did recently. I can see the American people voting for McCain for Prez and strengthening Demorats hold on Congress.

376. I could not vote or support for Hillary. I just could not.
Nobody would tear the Democrats up more than Hillary. I do not want to repeat banging my head against a wall again like I did after I voted for Kerry in 2004. Hillary has moved too far to the right and this is a losing strategy. It was proven in 1994, 2000, 2002, and 2004. Also, Hillary's continued support for the agression on Iraq still mystifies me. The Neocons would play this to the hilt among other things. It would be naive and short-sighted for people to support and nominate Hillary as the Democratic choice. It would put the DLC into the driver's seat again. A driver's seat that would assure the Republicans winning the White House again.

My guess is that Al Gore would beat Barrack Obama for the nomination etc., but that then the two men, after waging a very nice campaign effort, would select the other as their running mate.

Gore/Obama '08 is what I eventually hope to see on bumperstickers everywhere and for the 1/20/09 inauguration as our next President and Vice President!

375. Agreed there.
I think Kerry should have been more bolder towards Bush. Kerry stole Howard Dean's fire early in the campaign and then when Dean was out of the picture, Kerry got wishy-washy again. I tend to think John Kerry would be the same way as a nominee in 2008. I think many already know how I feel about Hillary. She could not win! As for Al Gore, now that he is not beholden to the DLC puppetmasters, I think Gore will be more fiery, more straight-shooting, and passionate. He would be the people's candidate for the Democrats. I firmly believed if he ran again, more people would support him.

If Gore has the vision to see and act upon the environmental crisis of planet Earth,
he also has the vision to see his way through cleaning up D.C.

President Al Gore conquerer of quagmires.
