Cindy Sheehan on trial, Kerry's sister involved

http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/12/07/america/NA_GEN_US_Peace_Mom_Trial.php

"An employee of the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, the sister of former U.S. presidential candidate John Kerry, testified Thursday that she canceled a meeting with a women's group last March when she saw prominent anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan and several reporters among them.

Sheehan and three other women face charges of disorderly conduct, obstructing government administration, trespass and resisting arrest after sitting in front of the U.S. mission and ignoring orders to leave. They each face up to a year in prison if convicted.

The women said they wanted to deliver an anti-war petition with 70,000-plus signatures."

2. One more paragraph
"Peggy Kerry, the mission's liaison for non-governmental organizations, said she had arranged to meet the group but later felt she had been misled about the meeting's purpose."

Nice lady. Met her during the campaign.

4. But what difference did it make that Sheehan was with the group?
It says in the next paragraph:

"I was angry that they had not told me Cindy Sheehan would be there," Kerry said. "(Her presence) explained to me why there was a gaggle of press outside."

7. Probably felt like she'd been ambushed, or that she'd been made part of a media event
I'm not sure I'd like being made to feel like a "them" instead of an "us". Even so, I wasn't there. I'd like to know more about the incident. Why that office? Why them? Had they been responsible for some part of the war?

10. My sentiments exactly.
And I don't understand the reaction here on this thread. It's a little much to call Peggy a bitch considering these circumstances.

12. They were delivering a petition
How many of the details of this story are you even familiar with? Did you see the video of the cops manhandling Cindy when they arrested her? Do you know why Ms. Kerry refused to meet with her?

11. Guerilla theater???
Working full time to bring peace to the world, especially to the middle east is guerilla theater???

Sacrificing her personal life and traveling around the world to promote peace is guerilla theater?

I suppose you believe Cindy was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize because of her guerilla theater?

What have you done for peace? How much of your life have you sacrificed to make the world more peaceful? How many of your kids have been killed in Iraq?

Guerilla theater??

13. They scheduled a meeting with Mrs. Kerry
They did not tell her it was going to be a media circus.

Yes, its guerilla theater.

Sorry my opinion pisses you off so much. There is an ignore button that you can use.

14. That's my take as well

They wanted a circus. They wanted the arrest. That would have been the point, I reckon. Well congratulations, they got it. Enjoy. If all would have gone smoothly the media would have been disappointed I'm sure and they wouldn't have gotten the publicity for their cause.

Too much trouble to worry about, eh?

But fortunately for you, Cindy Sheehan is willing to go to jail to bring an end to the violence.

18. I think this should be seen as more evidence of the real problem.
That essentially we don't have a two party system.

Keep in mind John Kerry and George Bush come from Yale Skull and Bones along with great privilege. I don't fault them for that, however I fault those who did not teach them that we are all in this together.

What are the odds they would BOTH be the presidential canididates?

With that said, seeing the careless and cold actions of John's sister, we should take notice and not close our eyes to such dismissive, classist actions.

If we dismiss and deny her response to Cindy Sheehan, do we not hurt and invalidate ourselves, and make ourselves more vulnerable by continuing to cling to an illusion of what things should be versus what the ARE?

We have a system of elitists running the country, the parties are simply fronts to make us believe there is a difference in agendas running both the Democratic and Republican parties, and they, along with a bought and paid for media, have quite effectively duped America into believing that the parties really are different.

Frankly, to hell with the parties.

Let's vote and support leaders who are good, decent people and work to dissolve the division, disinformation, and gatekeeping and the 'us against them' tactics.

As long as Americans are divided, those that abuse power and privilege will remain there. Because their exploitation is solely dependent on our isolation from one another and our lack of unity.

Keeping waking up those who are still sleeping.
