29. Sorry, but Chafee helped congress pass that awful Medicare Part D.
Chafee provided the vote to allow Medicare Part D to get passed. That turned out a meager prescription drug benefit for middle class disabled and retired people.

The Republicans shanghaied the already covered medicaid beneficiaries to Medicare Part D to hide the meagerness for middle class people who did not have the drug benefit yet.

Good to see Chafee go. I hope Rep. Steve Israel, a Democrat loses in 2008 as he also voted for this fiasco and lives on Long Island where I do. No he's not my representative. I have the IRA terrorist supporting Republican Peter King as my representative.

58. For me, Part D is crucial
I am disabled, and getting Medicare, but none of my prescriptions would be covered if it weren't for Part D. I don't get Masshealth anymore, because I have too much "income" for my disability, and my medications would be upward of $500+ a month otherwise. (How anyone taking in $13,000 a year for income could ever be construed as "too much" is beyond me) But the state and feds help those of us who can't afford it, and for that I am grateful. In California, I lived with diabetes, heart disease and other major illnesses for 3 1/2 years without health or drug coverage, and of course I nearly died more than once. Massachusetts has some worthy programs, however, and at least I can say I have a lot higher quality of life as a result.

56. As a New Englander
I think he's probably been a lot more liberal than a lot of Southern Democrats. I've also heard tell that he would be a Democrat anyhow if it weren't for the Repubs being the party of his famous father, and I've also heard he might be considering changing parties sometime in the future. With Chafee, I think that would be a good idea, because he would be meaning it, not switching so much for completely political reasons, but because his views would echo the party.

61. Glad that there are so many going!
And that they include horrible evil characters like Delay and Santorum and Allen.

And also some quite revolting governors being replaced by Dems, esp. the disgusting Mitt Romney.

I hope that things really change now. Bush needs an Opposition, and does NOT 'deserve a Congress that will work with him' like Cheney said.

I assume most of these people are being replaced by Dems. I remember, though, that there was one moderate Republican who was dumped in the primary for a far-right-winger (interesting that there were no shrieks from Cheney et al about HIM being 'purged and abandoned'). Did the right-winger win, or did a Dem get that seat?
