This is a short post, but I hope you guys will think it's an important concept in "turning back" a RW attack on the Democrats.
Just watch. I'm seeing it, already. The new GOP/RW-extremist talking point is going to be "the Democrats control the purse strings, let THEM decide if they want to fund Iraq, or not."
This is an attempt at a trap. If the Democrats fund it, THEY are "guilty" of continuing the war. If they DON'T fund it, THEY are "guilty" of "continuing genocide" and "losing the war."
Here's the counter-strategy:
The Democrats should announce that they will give Bush EVERY PENNY he asks for to fight in Iraq.
With one catch.
EVERY PENNY that goes to Iraq will be counted, and taxes will be increased by exactly that amount. Progressively, of course, since those with the most have the most to "lose" if we "lose" the war. (I'm still waiting for someone to define "success" and "failure" in Iraq in a permanent statement, but I stopped holding my breath long ago.)
Let America decide, again, if the war in Iraq is "worth it." We'll be able to decide if we wan to PAY for this war, or pull out.
I'm betting we'll be outta there in less than 2 years.
(Please don't make me watch this scroll off the page without a comment or a recommendation.)

1. The Dems can do better than sweetheart deals with Helliburton. |

But Halliburton's mostly pulled out, and there's nothing wrong with adding the words "an accounting of where the money's going" to the original post/concept.
Another afterthought: Not all of the money has to be spent "in Iraq". It costs money to buy new limbs and pay for brain surgery, too.
Seriously, this war makes me sick enough as it is, but the way they've been hiding the COSTS, in blood AND money (and pictures of coffins), is too much.

3. This might seem obvious, but... |

...it should be called a "war tax".
Anyone who doesn't want to pay it is an "unpatriotic traitor in time of war" or some other such RW language.
"We (the Democrats) aren't raising your taxes. President Bush is."
The tax cut whores wouldn't like that one.
