1. Because it's a free fucking country? |
|
Or do you manage to live without the use of petroleum at all?
I'd be curious to see your computer, then.

8. No need to be so testy. |
|
I realize it is a free country--I want to keep it that way, that's why I'm here. I also know that the petroleum companies have been raping this country for decades & have had a heyday under this oil-loving administration. We have young people DYING in a war for OIL! I use a little as I possible can. Drive a car that gets 35+/gal., do not buy any plastic products that I can substitute other materials for. We are all here for a common cause, not to ATTACK EACH OTHER! Go pick on somebody whose looking for a fight; it's not me.

is one of the more progressive petroleum companies. They've invested a lot in alternative fuels. Not a bad company really.

3. DU doesn't choose the Google ads- they are whatever they are. |
|
But, as a DU donor, you have the option to block them. Somewhere in "preferences", IIRC.
I myself have the "adblock" extension on my browser- it does the same thing. I haven't seen an ad since the second day they were here!

6. But didn't Skinner invite DU members |
|
to criticize ads we feel are inappropriate and indicate that they would block some of these ads if a good amount of objection arose to them? I can't remember exactly what they said, but that's close to what I remember DU admin saying about the google ads.

9. I don't remember the specifics on that, either. |
|
I installed AdBlock right after the GoogleAds started, and I didn't pay much attention to the whole ad discussion after that, I'm afraid.
I do -VAGUELY- remember it, but no real details, I'm afraid.

10. Well, on the one hand, every click on their ad costs Shell money. |
|
But on the other hand, they'd just pass on the expense to the consumer.
Please note that I am NOT advocating a mass-clicking on any ad, cos that could result in Skinner losing his GoogleAds account.
I just ignore the ads that annoy me, and chuckle at the ones that amuse me. Like the one advertising the certificate in International Affairs from the George Bush School of Government. Gotta love it!
