2. Looks like it was incorporated into a bill for |
|
tax cut extensions and trade relations with Vietnam. I don't understand -- the amount of effluence thrust upon us is suffocating.

7. something tells me that Nelson of FL is going to be VERY upset. |
|
Me thinks the senior senator from Florida may start acting like a democrat more and more often in the next congress.

withdraw their legislation on this Thursday?
If it passed the Senate, but the House withdrew it, and are now gone, then does it not become pretty meaningless re the Senate?
Or did the House slip it back through Friday as well?
thanks

This passed in the tax-cut bill with a vote of 367-45... so yes lots of Dems voted. And it is the Senate version they approved, so no conference committee - this is it. It has passed, I guess. I don't know how to find the rollcall on the house vote, though.
But I actually think drilling here in the states is OK, since we do have to have oil and natl gas. I do work in a related industry and have lived in Tx and Louisiana - drilling offshore has been there for 50 years and it hasn't "disasterized" things. They did increase the royalty payments to the states which they can also use - they are the ones impacted and are states that can darn sure use the revenue. Some folks think they should have kept more of the royalty going to the federal government, and don't like the gulf coast states getting "a raise" so to speak?

1. It will kill off tourism on the coasts resulting in major economic losses, esp. Florida. 2. The environment should not be the sacrificial lamb to dirty, unreliable, non-renewable fuels. 3. Do You remember Katrina and what happened to the inland refineries? Do You think the states would appreciate their coasts looking like the aftermath of Valdez after another Super Hurricane comes through?
What's the difference between the D's and R's again?

Right to drill in something called area 181. Apparently stops 200 miles west of Florida, from there back to where they already drill in the gulf of mexico.

15. Its just a scam - here's how it works |
|
Edited on Sat Dec-09-06 11:56 AM by OzarkDem
Bush & Jebbie ran this little game of 3 card monte a few years ago with the Destin Dome.
First, they approve drilling in the Gulf. Then oil companies start choosing drilling locations near wildlife habitats and tourist areas.
Next the residents get up in arms and go to Jebbie or whomever their governor is and lodge protests.
In response, the oil companies protest about all the money they will lose because they can't drill (usually in areas where supply is unproven)
Finally Bush steps in and gives all the oil companies billions of dollars in your tax dollars to compensate them for not being able to drill
They end up heroes to the public for "protecting the environment" and the oil companies kick back a hefty portion of your tax dollars to campaign contributions
Bull****, its a scam.
On edit: Dems in Congress either haven't caught on to the scam and get bilked every time or they haven't the spine to stand up to them
