I'm with Cindy, but she should have planned better.
She should have "covered up" and then revealed the shirt during the speech making Chimpy have to stop and creating a ruckus. Or just not done the T-shirt thing all together, it would have made a more powerful statement if she had just merely been present during the speech.

6. Yes.
They are REALLY picky about infringing on religious freedoms of muslims for some reason yet that have a big problem with women covering themselves in saudi arabia.

4. My thoughts exactly
Before anyone starts lashing out at us and calling us Cindy-bashers, I just think it would have been more effective if Bush was forced to look into the face of the woman he couldn't bear to face when she was standing in a ditch in Crawford, nearly passing out from the Texas heat, maintaining a vigil because she wanted to know what "noble cause" Casey died for.

8. I don't know, all I know is this.
You know they must have been all over before the SOTU. I would have played their little game til show time then cut loose. As it stands I think she still did an outstanding job and the big statement that was made was how inaccessible the government is to the common people.

10. How do you know that wasn't the plan?
I'm only couch quarterbacking here, but what I saw is that when she was arrested and removed from her seat she was wearing a dark jacket. When she was escorted away then her jacket was opened revealing a t-shirt that said something about how many soldiers were dead.

So how did they know what she was wearing underneath that jacket before she took it off?

11. See my post above.
I was talking out of my ass and didn't have the full story. The Reuters pics are most revealing.

12. No. She shouldn't have
There was nothing illegal about what she did, nor was it against the dress code.

I don't think Cindy had any reason to think she would be arrested for wearing a politically-themed shirt.

13. In the "real" world that is true.
But this is Bush we are talking bout here. I'm actually quite surprised she made it into the gallery with out the gestapo stopping her on the steps of the Capitol.

14. I'm not sure it was even planned
She was just wearing the same shirt she'd worn all day. Probably didn't even think about it.

16. Agreed. I LOVE Cindy...but she's not the sharpest pencil in the box.
Someone needs to seriously school Cindy on the fineries of protesting during the BFEE Dictatorship era (circa 2001 - present). She should have known that they were watching her like a hawk.

...or, is Cindy smart like a fox and actually wanted to be arrested, which may be an even bigger story than her wearing a t-shirt. Hmmmmm.

17. Her pencil is sharper than most, and whether she was trying
to be arrested seems to be a question that she will have to answer, because we won't have the truth until then.

18. I was just thinking about that.

I got to wondering why she would need to wear a T-shirt. She is one of the most recognizable women in America today. Just being there and looking at bush while he was lying would have been quite a statement.

I also wonder if they would have arrested someone for wearing a Cindy Sheehan T-shirt?

19. She NEVER had the chance.
http://www.michaelmoore.com/mustread/index.php?id=594

I was never told that I couldn't wear that shirt into the Congress. I was never asked to take it off or zip my jacket back up. If I had been asked to do any of those things...I would have, and written about the suppression of my freedom of speech later. I was immediately, and roughly (I have the bruises and muscle spasms to prove it) hauled off and arrested for "unlawful conduct."

Manhandled and arrested without warning.

Violation of 1st Amendment rights.

There were NO obscenities on her shirt.

The Neocons simply CANNOT handle the truth.

20. Cindy's own words...
from DailyKos (emphasis mine, not Cindy's):

"I knew that I couldn't disrupt the address because Lynn had given me the ticket and I didn't want to be disruptive out of respect for her."

"I had just sat down and I was warm from climbing 3 flights of stairs back up from the bathroom so I unzipped my jacket. I turned to the right to take my left arm out, when the same officer saw my shirt and yelled; "Protester." He then ran over to me, hauled me out of my seat and roughly (with my hands behind my back) shoved me up the stairs."

"I was never told that I couldn't wear that shirt into the Congress. I was never asked to take it off or zip my jacket back up. If I had been asked to do any of those things...I would have, and written about the suppression of my freedom of speech later."

"I wore the shirt to make a statement. The press knew I was going to be there and I thought every once in awhile they would show me and I would have the shirt on. I did not wear it to be disruptive, or I would have unzipped my jacket during George's speech. If I had any idea what happens to people who wear shirts that make the neocons uncomfortable that I would be arrested...maybe I would have, but I didn't."
