I thought he did well. He was positive and tore Bush up while staying polite and talked about service, competence and the responsibility's of government officials. I think the speech worked for independents and those in the middle.
I give him a B+

and he speaks to my principals and beliefs. He's wary of the death penalty, so am I. He's against a federal ban on gay marriage, so am I. He's for gun control, so am I. He's for responsible spending and so am I. He supports the right to choose, and I do too. The list goes on and on.

appealing to both sides in Virginia is fine but this country doesn't want to listen to a boring stiff man on tv, they just tune out.

I do think he was nervous. I wish they got another governor. Phil Bredesen would've done a fine job if they wanted a southern democrat governor. I think they got Kaine because of all the work they've done in Virginia and to show that democrats can do well.

I think it spoke to the independents and republicans who are tired of Bush. I don't think it was aimed at the base or liberals. He could have been a stronger speaker but his manner will hopefully appeal to the people I mentioned above. I am more liberal but I don't need convincing. I give him a B.

10. Message? A+. Delivery? B-. Overall? B+ |
|
And in the end, it is the message that is most important. That is where the snippits in the paper and soundbites will come from. Not his hands moving around that made it easy to see how saturday night live will go about impersonating him. In the end the message is what counts, and his message was awesome imho.

I think his delivery made him sound extremely insincere, and I found it very difficult to get past it enough to really listen to what he was saying.
As for what he was saying, the message was mostly right, but he sounded so weak and smarmy that it really didnt make any impact, and I'M a Democrat. I dont think he really drove home the Dems message to anyone but hardcore Dems.
If we intend to 'bring a message' to the American people, we're going to have to put stronger speakers up front and in the Republicans faces.
