Poll question: Who should be Time's "Person of the Year"?
Edited on Sat Dec-09-06 07:19 PM by jefferson_dem
Time describes the award as such - TIME's Person of the Year is the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or for ill, and embodied what was important about the year.

Who do you think fits the bill this year?

In this DU poll, i only include names that are in the TIME poll, on their website. Of course, you may add your own if you like.

1. If it wasn't for YouTube, we'd be talking about Felix Macaca running for the White House

2. I would have gone with Bill Clinton if his name was on Times' site
He was raised a lot of money for charity this year like most years.

3. Chuck Norris
For these reasons, and so many more:

http://www.duckshit.com/chuck-norris-jokes/

Chuck Norris doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants.

If you ask Chuck Norris what time it is, he always says, "Two seconds till." After you ask, "Two seconds to what?" he roundhouse kicks you in the face.

Rather than being birthed like a normal child, Chuck Norris instead decided to punch his way out of his mother's womb. Shortly thereafter he grew a beard.

Chuck Norris appeared in the "Street Fighter II" video game, but was removed by Beta Testers because every button caused him to do a roundhouse kick. When asked bout this "glitch," Norris replied, "That's no glitch."

Chuck Norris has never blinked in his entire life. Never.

4. Before I saw Times' short list...
...I was thinking that it should be between Gore & Chavez. I ended up voting both here and on the Times' web site for Gore. But Times has become so afraid to call it for anyone that the rw would poo their pants over, I'm betting that they go with YouTube.

5. Time is a disgraceful, lying, warmongering corporate news monopoly.
So I wouldn't wish anyone I like onto its cover. But if you want to know MY "persons of the year," they are...

The people of Venezuela, where they handcount FIFTY-FIVE PERCENT of the electronic vote, because they don't trust the new machines.

And the people of Oaxaca, who are on the front lines in the Corporate Rulers' war on the poorest of the poor. Their entirely peaceful and democratic resistance against Corporate Rule has been magnificent. Many people have been killed, kidnapped, raped, tortured and detained in secret, by rightwing forces on behalf of the Corporate Rulers. Yet tomorrow they march again and re-organize!

Viva la revolución!

6. I said this on a thread a couple of weeks ago; I'll propose it again
Internet bloggers.

Time's recent collective choices have been a cop out, but for 2006 I can't think of a single individual who has been the mover and shaker, for better or worse.

Again, my choices for the last several years, when Time was giving cop out awards:

2001 -- Osama
2002 -- Bush
2003 -- Bush
2004 -- Rove
2005 -- Cindy Sheehan
