Bit of a shock: a friend from a non-politics board is a freeper.
Okay, I don't think she hangs out at FreeRepublic, but she's just as bad. I went to check her blog today after agreeing with a sports post from a few days back, only to find this:

http://drivebythinking.typepad.com/driveby_thinking/2006/12/politically_spe.html

Wow. So this is how the other side thinks. *shudder* Her writing is obviously code for a "nuke them all" strategy. She thinks we haven't won in Iraq because we've held back?! I had to leave a comment. We'll see if she posts it.

1. This is also the writing
typical of someone who has absolutely no personal experience of combat. She's probably never in her life spoken with anyone who's been in combat. Okay, so maybe she's seen "Private Ryan", but it's still not quite like actually being there.

11. I thought that, too.
Ask a soldier about fighting a war "right" and just eradicating the enemy and what-all that takes. *shudder* It's amazing to be blind to what that means.

2. I've had the same kind of shock with a friend on an un-related list
We were bouncing around thoughts on Darfur, and then the ME came up. She offered to send me a copy of that movie "Obsession", the one Fox is touting everywhere. Then she went on with this anti-muslim rave which caught me completely by surprize.

I weenied out of the conversation as gracefully as I could. It was a huge shock to have that sort of Fox-spew come out of the email of someone I thought I knew.

3. The "drive-by" phrase in the blog title reveals her inspiration.
Doesn't drug-addled gasbag Rush Limbaugh refer to all non-extreme-right-wing media as the "drive-by media"? (By the way, what does that mean? Is this an example of "Republican humor"? I don't get it.)

Regarding talking to enemies and opposing nations, Lord God Reagan negotiated with the Soviet Union even as he denounced them as the "Evil Empire". A few years later they were gone.

Once we leave Iraq, your friend and those of her ilk will forever say we "lost by leaving". Just like Vietnam.

8. I didn't know that.
It's still suprising. She seems so nice, and then there's this rage and filth spewed on her blog.

4. In a war? Go for Victory.
The premise is simple and makes sense in case of a war.

But Iraq isn't war, it's evolved into a referee action, trying to keep factions from killing each other. The administration has no clear idea of what "victory" would look like, so substitute "government creation at gunpoint". Even then, the government will need to be permanently "baby-sat" to keep its factions from splitting.

I keep saying that the administration has no vision of victory, no goal for Iraq. To be fair, I don't either, I don't know what a peaceful, stable, humane Iraq would be, maybe impossible. I feel like we have some responsibility there, after tearing down the stable (if inhumane) regime.

I never understood why we went there in the first place. Because they took over Kuwait? Kuwait was never a bastion of humane government. The most progressive statement out of their crown prince was that "we will consider giving women the right to vote". Don't hold your breath, ladies.

I think we just need to get out.

Regards.

5. This moran wants it both ways:
She writes "Understood -- the need for regional cooperation. Also understood -- who kept Iran relatively quiet for so long? Saddam. Why? Because he played tough. Do I approve of his methods? Hell no. But they were effective. The enemy only respects force. That's the lesson to take away."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She disapproves of Saddam's 'methods' but admits they worked and then claims force is the only solution...:wtf:

6. Typical right-wing drivel.
A string of non sequiturs and unrelated metaphors, with no logical direction, what-so-ever.

The bigotry that inspires the nonsense, is readily apparent:

-They do not "...adhere to the same cultural considerations as you do."

-"Assuming you did sit down with these people and talk, you would be so stupid as to trust them afterwards?"

-Our "enemies" are like "predatory animals", so why bother talking to them?

Also obvious, is the presumed belief, that our government is entitled to manipulate other governments, and invade other countries at will. Sadly, even many liberals have been inculcated with this belief, through a lifetime of exposure to corporatist propaganda.

10. The comment I left was on the "insurgency."
I said that we were acting like Britain and knew from historical experience that an insurgency fighting against torture, quartering, and fraud can win, even against the biggest army in the world. I wonder if she'll just snap her mind up tight or if she'll spend even a minute pondering that.

9. Yeah, I know. I wonder if she'll know it's me.
I mean, I use a different name for the board we're on than I use for Blogger and blog posts and yet another one for here. I wonder if she'd feel differently if she knew who I am.
