Got Dirt?
With congress about to take their holiday recess we are going to have a hard time getting our leaders to advance our priorities. I believe that we should use this time effectively. I have seen countless polls concerning who should be our candidate in the 2008 election. I have also seen countless threads saying this is counterproductive. So in the interest of being productive I suggest that we start slinging mud at those that have declared their interest in seeking the Republican nomination. I am not looking for whom you would like to see as their candidate. I am looking for verifiable dirt on the competition. For example, I used to have a sliver of respect for John McCain. His status as a POW carried much weight with me. When he supported the pResidents detainee torture bill this sliver was consumed by a fiery rage for his hypocrisy. What dirt do we have on those that have already thrown their hat in the ring on the other side of the aisle? I believe that if we compile this early we can influence their primary battle by getting the press to ask inconvenient questions. We can also send LTTE’s in the early primary states to taint potential candidates and make our own nominee’s job easier in the general election. Yes this is sinking to their level but I will make no apologies for fighting fire with fire. I wish us to run an effective presidential campaign and this is what I think will be a brilliant use of time until congress reconvenes. Now here are the oppositions declared candidates.

Sam Brownback
Rudy Giuliani
Duncan Hunter
John McCain

What do we have on them? Thanks for contributing.

1. The Republicans already dislike McCain and Guiliani
Those two have records conservatives don't like, so they can sink themselves. Sam Brownback is a fundamentalist, that's enough to take him down.

4. Unfortunately being a fundy doesn't hurt him enough.
If the repukes can restart the culture war and effectively scare their base with non issues like gay marriage they can turn out the vote for pond scum like him. I guess I need to look at his voting record to find material to use against him. We need to make him look like a dangerous out of touch candidate

2. We should be working hard on Duncan Hunter...
he is going to try to use his time as on the intellgence commmittee, to try to portray himself as a strong leader, I have been watching him for a while. When he comes on c-span he tries to evade questions by jumping off the subject and taking up all of the time so that he doesn't receive that many questions from the public. I also think that when the debates come up we should make sure we pound the commentators with hard hitting questions...

3. I like the idea of hitting them with questions.
That is why I started this thread. This is actually a repost from the middle of the week when it sank like a stone and got no responses. I don't know enough about Duncan Hunter. Where is he weak and what should we ask him. He was so off my radar that I don't even know what to ask him.

5. Here's what I've (informally & mentally ) collected so far...
John McCain:

(paraphrasing) said that "Americans wouldn't pick lettuce for even $50 an hour." This was recently, and in reference to the immigration brouhaha. I don't know ANYONE who WOULDN'T pick lettuce for 50 bucks an hour. Middle America would scream in anger at that one.

the SC primary with Bush in 2000 - didn't stand up for his wife and child, and then hugged and sucked up to *Bush for 6 years. What kind of family values is that?

folded on Military Commissions Bill, after claiming to stand up for America? gee, now there's courage for ya. Add any of the other times he's folded.

Rudy Guiliani: there's a photo somewhere of him in drag at some party...and apparently, also one of him in drag at the same party maybe(?) with Donald Trump sucking at his fake teat. I don't personally find it offensive, but you can bet middle America would.

All of these have been discussed on DU. I realize they're more values based and not 'hard' details or anything, but these are the kinds of things some people will pay attention to.

6. Thank you that is exactly what I was looking for
I remember being appalled by McCain's capitulation on the Military Commision bill. I thought that as a former POW he would have stood up for what was right.
