Now that we have the ISG, can we do an Afghanistan study now?
We need to remind people that we have troops in Afghanistan. We need to remind people that American troops are dying there because the Bush Administration withdrew our military for their folly in Iraq. We need to remind people of the lies that this Administration perpetrated upon America to the detriment of our troops. We need to support the troops in Afghanistan as much we need to support our troops in Iraq.

We need a bi-partisan study (members to be chosen by the in-coming Congress) study how screwed up Afghanistan is too.

There are men and women, of many nations, dying because of this Administration and they need to be held accountable. And many of them are dying in our name.

1. I've long wanted something more along the lines of the Pentagon Papers
A blow by blow on the topic of how Shrub and CHEENEE got us INTO THIS FUCKING MESS, with the full compliance of the media and spineless Congress.

3. I would support that
The American people need to know the truth. We deserve it. Moreover, we owe it to everyone, especially those that have died or lost loved ones.

4. Toronto Star asking that very question today.
(As it relates to Canada, of course.)

Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his advisers would do well to consider the ISG's recommendations in light of an increasingly tough mission Canadian troops, aid workers and diplomats face in Afghanistan. To start, our troops are in danger in southern Afghanistan in large part because of the breakdown of meaningful diplomatic links with Pakistan and Iran.

6. The ISG comes to many of those conclusions.
An AP report dated yesterday, Iraq Report Casts Military As War-Weary,
quotes the report extensively on how the Iraq adventure undermined the
war in Afghanistan, damaged the military, and harmed America's readiness
to deal with other crises.

Other parts of the report urge the Bush administration to tell the truth
to the American people and accept the truth from people on the ground.

Unfortunately, the pResident is not listening.

7. Doesn't anyone else think
it was strange, wrong, stupid? that there were no Arabs on the ISG???? It's not like we don't have a few who are knowledgeable about the middle east.

8. What I see as the problem is, it's the same old people
Things have changed. Perhaps it is time to bring in new people, not just Arabs, to look at it with soft eyes. But you are right, we need people who understand more than one facet of the problems that we're facing, along with people with actual knowledge of the conditions so we can put together a fresh perspective and, maybe, think outside the box. Some of these committee members had financial stakes to consider when they made their recommendations.
