Veterans of War, Veterans of Peace
Maxine Hong Kingston et al.

Since the early 1990s, author Maxine Hong Kingston has run a workshop for war veterans, their families, and others affected by war in an effort to help them use writing to deal with the trauma associated with extreme violence. Recently she published a collection of pieces by these workshop participants in a book titled "Veterans of War, Veterans of Peace." During this event, Ms. Kingston is joined by nine contributors to the book who read excerpts from their work and talk about their experiences. This event was hosted by Black Oak Books in Berkeley, California.

Maxine Hong Kingston is a writer and senior lecturer for the department of english at the University of California at Berkeley. She has authored "The Fifth Book of Peace," "The Woman Warrior," and "China Men." To find out more about "Veterans of War, Veterans of Peace," visit www.vowvop.org .
