If you missed SNL last night
the movie trailer of Mel Gibson's new movie is a classic:

2. It was a great episode.
The inevitable "its not as good as older seasons" chorus can shuv it. This is the best SNL cast in years.

4. That is too funny, way funnier than the opening monolog of "Bush"
SNL needs a new person doing Bush and some new writers. My favorite "Bush" is the one that Leno has.

Great video, though, of Apolcalypto.

5. Saturday Night Live HAS a new person doing Bush.
Jason Sudeikis does look a bit more like Spurious George than Will Forte does, but I liked Forte's "It's hard work!"

Will Ferrell was the best Bush, though.

7. I liked Will Forte's version better
but it really wasn't a very accurate portrayal.

Every time SNL has trouble finding a good Prez impression I think back to Dan Akroyd doing Carter, he didn't even try to look like Carter. :) Reagan, Bush I and Clinton's impressions were all spectacular.

8. Chevy Chase didn't try to look like Ford, either.
That's the dif between the original cast and the later casts - the original guys went for a 'hook' (like Chase nearly breaking his back while falling down as Ford), while later casts have relied more on wigs and makeup to look more like Clinton and Bush. (I should 'fess up that I haven't watched SNL for a very long time, so I really have no idea how the newest guys are doing it).

Carvey's Bush I (and Perot, for that matter!), Darrell Hammond's Clinton, and Will Farrell's Bush II were the best of the bunch, IMO.

9. Don't forget Phil Hartman's Clinton, Reagan and Gen. Stockdale

They were perfect IMO.

I also liked Al Franken's Paul Tsongas.. "I'm not Santa Claus" :)

11. I think the one Leno has is the same one that did the bit with
blivet** at the Press Dinner, isn't it?

14. yes -- Steve Bridges -- he actually doesn't look much like Bush
... until he undergoes an hours-long makeup procedure. (Kudos to the artists, who do a pretty good job on the skin tone ... it has to hold up under pretty close scrutiny when Bridges is working a room for his corporate gigs.) Personally I think that Bridges portrays the jolly "Dubya" character that Bush himself is meant to play, as written by his handlers -- dim and kind of immature, but basically decent. But Bush isn't a trained actor, and when he's bored or angry, his real self shows through. Even reading the transcripts from his recent press conferences, one gets the sense that he is much nastier than the Bridges version. (In my opinion, if they could sub in Bridges for appearances, there wouldn't be nearly as many international incidents.)

10. Predictable
As soon as I read the post, I knew they were going to say that Jews caused the Mayan civilization to disappear. Decent idea, poorly executed in my opinion- the subtitles weren't that funny, and repeating Gibson's comments verbatim was unimaginative.

16. What?!
I'm confused. I didn't find it funny so that means I like Mel Gibson or support his bizarre views? That's insane. My commentary was specifically on how they did their satire; which I didn't find that funny because I could see the punchline coming 100 yards away.

17. No argument
I have no argument about that. Nor am I against the argument that Mel is crazy. I just didn't find the SNL parody all that funny- thats all.
