and it always gives a strange sense of accomplishment when it does.

Writing is my life. It's what I wanted to do since I was a little kid. I read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings in 3rd Grade, then started writing myself when I was in fourth.

I was writing political stuff by the time I was a teenager, though, I must admit, I was pretty ignorant. I was ready for the web ever before there was a web. I used to write these ridiculous tracts and have my friends with old and archaic computers print them up and distribute them in really strange places.

I was a blogger before there were blogs. When the only computers that existed were Commadore 64s and Trash 80s.

I've only had one other post make it to the top of the Greatest list once before...

It's pretty cool that this one made it as well.

I'd missed the original, but read it and gave you a K&R. You write brilliantly, like a lot of people on DU (being put into a group that includes Pitt and H2OMan and Octafish and Plaid Adder should be OK), and your insights, like theirs, should be front page material every day.

6. There are a lot here who deserve mention that I omitted.

Many names I see only once or twice, and others I see frequently, but being bad with names, can't remember. Dancing Bear is another that just popped up as an essayist whose work hit me, and I want to give a "thank you" to all of them who, like you, are able to express important ideas in an eloquent and coherent manner. It is not easy, and it is appreciated.

7. I'd say, in general, that there are as many excellent writers on DU

as there are in the entire universe of RW spin...
