Big, black helicoptors over northern New Jersey last Friday & Saturday.
My friend reported that he witnessed "a lot" of "Hubies" flying overhead around Mahwah, New Jersey last Friday and Saturday. Numbered more than five within a short period of time (He didn't count). He didn't note the direction of origin nor the direction they were flying.

Does this sound like "something's up" to you as Hubies are generally used to transport heavy military equipment in a hurry?

1. Black? Not Gray?
As long as it isn't the gray helicopters there is nothing to worry about. If you see the gray copters: RUN!

2. I don't personally know. He said black.
Why are gray helicoptors "bad"? What exactly are Hubies and their purpose? Would this indicate preparation for Iran or a surprise push against Iraqi "insurgents"?

5. I want to know more too.
My friend says it's a special, very large military transport helicoptor that can move tanks (?!), etc. when the military can't wait for its weapons. The sound of the chopper blades is hard to ignore.

8. The largest helicopter made in the west is the CH-53 made by Sikorsky.
(CH-53 Sea Stallion, CH-53E Super Stallion, and Sea Dragon.)

There are some Russian helicopters (ex. Mi-26, NATO code name Halo) that are larger, but nothing called a "Hubie".

A quick search of google brings up nothing and I've attended a half dozen or so HAI (Helicopter Association International) shows in the last few years and have never heard of a Hubie.

9. I at first assumed she was talking about "Hueys," which is the
nickname for the Vietnam-era UH-1 helos built by Bell. These are general-purpose helicopters used for everything from medivac to gunships to troop carriers in air assaults. But they aren't giant helicopters by any means. Our Army NG flies them around all the time, and every time I hear them I get mild flashbacks.

7. During the Gulf War
in Bala Cynwyd PA, we used to have formations of three of these types flying at about 2000-3000 feet, headed due north. The noise was deafening and took place at all hours of the day and night. You could hear them coming from miles away and wold be awakened out of a sound sleep.
