Juan Cole: Iraq is beyond civil war.
I'm watching the Kucinich panel on c-span right now. He has the 2 authors of the Lancet Study on mortality due to the invasion, explaining their methodology, and how the U.S. teaches this methodology to UN survey groups around the world. It's considered the gold standard, but now the administration says it's flawed.

Juan Cole is also on the panel. He says by all definitions, Iraq is beyond a civil war.

9. I added a TV card to my PC
I'm watching CSpan in a window as I type this, although most of the time I am using the FM radio feature.

11. If you have time today, could you PM or post how that works for us Luddites?
Might have to consider that sometime but haven't a clue how the TV card for computer works then how I attach the cable from the satellite dish.

Thanks for any of you savvy folks who can clue me in.

2. America; the very definition of "hypocrisy".
Say one thing; do another.

"Good" when we do it; "evil" when anyone else does it. Unless we say it's "good" when someone else does it.

Do as we say, not as we do.

That's the American Way (and the #1 reason we're so detested round the world).

10. That seemed to be the consensus on "Meet the Press"
I saw this at around 4:00 or 5:00 on MSNBC, I think it was a re-run of Sunday's show.

A panel with Ken Adelman, Eliot Cohen, author of Fiasco, and someone else. They seemed to agree that this is now worse than civil war. It's everybody against everybody.

An absolute tragedy; brought about by sheer idiocy.

12. What lies beyond Civil War?
Not trying to be stupid, but what is the state of the Iraq situation if it is "beyond civil war?"

Complete chaos?

14. Regional conflaguration??? Religious war???
Since the Saudis and other Sunni countries are sending money to the Iraqi Sunni insurgency, Iraq's civil war most likely will erupt into a regional war combined with religious ideology. It will be like watching the Muslim version of the Reformation religious wars of old Europe.

16. So...where is it then?
And where are these definitions? I wasn't aware that civil war was merely one part of some grand continuum of conflict.

17. I heard someone describe it as
a country full of everyone killing everyone else indiscriminately.

I thought that was probably closer to the truth than describing it as a civil war . Theres too many tribes battling to define it as civil war .

18. I have been thinking about the best way to describe the mess over there...
I'm thinking it's like a cross between when Yugoslavia broke up and the mess that was Somalia in the 90's. A little bit of civil war, a dash of warlords, and a huge dose of corruption.
