COVERUP: NWS has NOT PUBLISHED Weather-related deaths for 2005
And it's almost 2007!

Check it out: http://www.weather.gov/os/hazstats.shtml

I can't IMAGINE why they don't want to publish 2005 data...

:sarcasm:

1. They don't want to bother their "beautiful minds" with such reality.
They stick to glossovers, special effects to evoke fear and terror, and misinformation for the "masses".

3. Cover up? Oh, please.
Volumes of information have been written about Katrina by the NOAA.

Here's one: http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/reports/tech-report-200501z.pdf

Do a search for Katrina on the NOAA site and you'll find plenty of other "weather-related death" info for 2005.

Just because one graph isn't updated for 2005 doesn't mean there's a cover up.

4. It may not be updated because they are still finding bodies from
the Katrina tragedy.

5. Where do you see a coverup, and for what purpose?
Do you think the NWS is hoping people will forget about Katrina if they don't have 2005 stats listed on this one page? If anything, Katrina stats are a boon for the NWS, as the numbers justify increased funding by reminding people of the usefulness of the NWS.

This isn't even a link to official NWS statistics, it's a link to educational data. Do you know the normal procedure for weather-related stats on the "EDUCATION" link on the NWS homepage? Do you have some reason to think they have violated normal procedure to exclude these numbers? I suspect that their numbers are still being compiled and verified for 2005. There were events other than Katrina, so there is data to be compiled and verified from other places. For that matter, there is still debate over Katrina numbers. There are a few dozen people still missing and a bodies not identified (some of those overlap, no doubt). There is still information coming in from evacuees on storm-related deaths. And it was probably mentioned here, but they found another Katrina body in the last few week or so in New Orleans.

Not to mention that the purpose of the graph you linked to is to show fatality averages. Katrina skews the averages something fierce.
