(CBS4) BOSTON For 25 years, the Primary Source Student Magazine has used satire to poke fun at administration policy at Tufts University but for many on this Medford Campus, last week's edition printed blatantly racist material in a carol titled "O Come All Ye Black Folk."

The magazine bills itself as the student journal of conservative thought, and they do receive money from student activity fees...

"O Come All Ye Black Folk" is supposed to be an attack on affirmative action. Written from the point of view of a Tufts admissions officer, the carol has lines like "boisterous yet desirable" and "no matter what your grades are F's, D's or G's give them privileged status"...

(NON-APOLOGY ALERT) "Many people interpret this carol as having crossed the line from making fun of a harmful institution to making fun of the black race. This was not my intention," said Allison Hoover, the magazine's editor in chief. Note: And Tufts Young Republicans starlet.

A response, LTTE, Tufts Daily:

The sense of security that members of the Black Community have at Tufts is being threatened by the voice of The Primary Source in its last issue, with a Christmas Carol, "Oh, Come, All Ye Black Folk." For years, we have been voicing our opposition to some of the views of this publication and our cries have fallen onto the deaf ears of the administration.

Now we are reaching through the impermeable sphere that has protected Tufts by making the public knowledgeable of this occurrence in hopes that it will pressure the administration to finally take the action we have been demanding for so long.

One of the many questions that arose after reading this article is: what has the Tufts Black community or any minority community for that matter (LGBT, Feminist, etc.), done to deserve the hostility and victimization that this publication is producing as a representation of a "monolithic voice," the voice of the Tufts Conservative body.

Based on moral grounds, no one should be subject to slander without having the opportunity to respond to it.

That way they can emphasize who their problem is with, what they believe, etc, and start an honest debate about the merits of their views and AA in general. Attempting a humorous attack isn't the right way to do that, and the fact that this editor never considered or more likely didn't care that the rant could so easily be seen as an attack on "black folk" demonstrates her true mindset. To her, black folk are inferior or just not worth thinking about, except as obstacles to her Utopia.

And I bet she'll graduate and maybe even go through life without understanding that.
