The OH GOP is pushing through a bill in the Lame Duck session that will:
Allow health insurance companies to sell lightly regulated "insurance-lite" plans to small employers, individuals or groups
Small employers are now classified as those employing 500 people or less
The "insurance-lite" plans would have few caps on deductibles and co-pays
The state Dept of Insurance will have limited oversight of enforcing these regulations. Insurance companies who violate regulations for caps on co-pays, deductibles, coverage and other consumer protections will be subject to - get this - administrative penalties of *$25,000* per incidence.
So as soon as your health care costs for a accident or illness appear they'll exceed $25,000, your health insurance plan will find it much more cost-effective to jack up your deductible and copay, and pay the administrative penalty instead.

On edit: the real icing on the cake is that insurers also get tax cuts from the states for offering these scams to the public and government subsidies for offering them to low income workers. Next step will be to pass a law requiring Ohioans to buy these useless plans.
