Enough about Sheehan. What about the protest?
Yes. It's me again.

Wasn't there supposed to major protest in several states tonight demanding Bush's removal from office? I've heard next to nothing about it.

I'm slighty irritated that the Sheehan story has taken focus off of that. Just my personal opinion, of course.

5. Union Square in San Francisco was packed
I went to the protest straight from work, and grabbed a ruler from my desk since we were supposed to bring something to make noise with. Banged the shit out of it on a stone bench (which echoed nicely across the square) while a giant papier-mâché statue of King George was toppled face down on the concrete.

Good times.

7. I went to the one in downtown Chicago.....
I'll be posting pictures tomorrow when they're developed. We had a great turnout in Daley Plaza with plenty of bells, whistles, drums, flags and signs. It was very energetic, with the high point being a papier mâchè statue of the chimp being toppled from it's pedestal ala Saddam. The crowd went nuts.

After that happened we marched thru downtown with the cops stopping cross-traffic along the way. Although not everyone from the rally joined, the marchers I would guess were at least two city blocks long. It was impressive!

We chanted "Bush step down" all the way. We brought the noise! We snaked our way to the NBC TV studio building and the local news channel where some street musicians joined in. There was dancing and a festive mood and honking cars added to the ambiance.

Again like the last demonstration here, there were all ages and ethnicities represented. It was encouraging, especially after yesterday's Alito downer.

The "World Can't Wait" organization did a wonderful job keeping it moving and cohesive. They also are pushing everyone to "hop on the bus" to DC this Saturday. I bought a ticket and I'm going!!!

8. Portland was a dud! And I'm pretty f*cking pissed about it!
4pm at Pioneer Square, a little tent set up for the speakers to keep out of the rain.
4:30 we had a few speakers
4:45 - half the crowd leaves to get on the max and go to Lloyd Center (mostly the anarchy kids in black, the ones you want to keep away from. 3/4 of the cops they had patrolling went with them)
5pm Great group - Sandpeople, 3 kids, think eminem protest songs (I got the CD and I will be copying it for friends)
5:30 Crowd was thinned out and almost gone because they didn't have anyone speaking to draw in the crowd, 20-30 people start marching downtown, they didn't even wait til 6pm when the speech started.

5:45 - I peeled off, picked up burgers for the kids and caught the bus home.

IT WAS LAME! I AM SO PISSED AT PORTLANDERS FOR NOT SHOWING UP. WTF!? SO IT WAS RAINING! BIG FREAKING DEAL! IT'S ALWAYS RAINING HERE!!
