5.  This has to be a first! I'm at 16:35, and the boy said to his mom, "Personally, I think Gallileo
made the right choice when he gave up science for Christ."

Hmmmmmm. :eyes:

This is very interesting, StrictlyRockers. How else would we have learned these truths "society" has been keeping from us?

Really, really appreciate your link! Thank you.

8. Yeah, there were a couple of scenes in there that I did a double-take on.
That was one of them. The other was when the mom said something like "Science doesn't prove anything!" and the child said "Dad says that too!" There's an arithmetic that an adult viewer can reckon from some of these scenes that the children living them can't, and probably won't for many years, that's more than a little chilling.

36. there's a website out there that has some damn funny excerpts from fundy homeschooling 'textbooks'
that make pinnochio appear honest. collections of outright lies and more quotes taken out of context than you can shake a stick at too to 'support' their lunacy. fine examples of willful ignorance, and stuff that really explains why fundy homeschooled people are sooooo woefully informed about the world around them.

did ya notice the anti-global warming bit too? i found it some funny how far right politics managed to inject itself into their fundyness.

10. That's almost child abuse....
Those children convulsing, speaking in tongues and crying their hearts out...I was sick. I have seen people taken over and turned around by these religions (we call them cults) and it is incredible. Give someone a microphone and turn up the volume...we're off to get us some more converts!

Did you recognize the one evangelist toward the end? I thought it was ironic when he asked an imaginary man in the congregation..."I know what you did last nigh." "I'm gonna tell your wife." or some such. Suppose he was talking to himself?

11. That was the Rev. Ted Haggard who was just in the news a few weeks ago, after being outed
by a man in the Denver area whom he claimed he found after a hotel employee recommended him as a masseur. Haggard also bought meth from him.

The timing is really creepy, as right after Haggard was "found out," he resigned his position in that huge church, and claimed to be going under the care of fundie preacher James Dobson, who intended to straighten him right out.

You may remember reading that this is the guy who was supposed to be in contact each Monday in a teleconference with George W. Bush.

Children should be left to decided for themselves, at their own pace.

The adults in this movie need to be arrested and charged with child abuse. I wanted to choke them when I saw those kids CRYING. That isn't love of God, it's hatred of children. It's about CONTROL and domination.

These people are inhumane and fucking crazy.

I did enjoy the scene where the Gay Rev Ted was preaching about the evils of homosexuality. God damned homophobic hypocrite.

And the political references!!! :grr:

LOL I emailed this link to my husband. He just came in the room where I am and said "I only watched half of that, but tell me why that isn't child abuse?"

25. Can't begin to imagine what kind of adults these kids will be.

Their church teaches them to disregard everyone who isn't like them as possibly being given over to "Satan."

They are instructed to gibber in "tongues." This can't be good for them, mentally. I think they break down their individuality, to merge them all with the group, to make them all emotionally totally dependent upon the church and their church peers.

Just found this on preacher Ted Haggard:
From The Denver Post:

The Rev. Ted Haggard, a Colorado Springs pastor whose growing national prominence has earned him a place on the White House phone tree, was not concerned about the early divisions among social conservatives over the nomination.

"Everybody's fine," said Haggard, pastor of New Life Church and president of the National Association of Evangelicals, an umbrella group of churches and denominations representing more than 30 million people. "This is just part of the process. It's actually good positioning because it confuses the liberals."

Haggard said he, like Dobson, received a phone call from the White House before Miers' nomination. Like Dobson, Haggard isn't talking about the conversation.

While Haggard said he would not pass judgment on Miers until after the nomination hearings, he gave a strong indication of his thinking: "If the president and Dr. Dobson say she's a good woman for the position," Haggard said, "odds are she is."

If you don't have enough time to watch the whole thing, though, here is a link to a compiltion of the most frightening scenes. This compilation is 14 minutes long.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7147413143041922928&q=jesus+camp

What they do to these vulnerable children is offensive. It's nothing less than brainwashing. It's twisted, and it is child abuse.

Mixing religion with politics goes against the very ideas that America was founded on. Separation of church and state is a basic precept of our democracy. These fundies are dangerous. This movie provides stark evidence of it.

Here's the original link. Keep hitting refresh and you should be able to get it to work.

30. Ted Haggart acts TOTALLY creepy with one of the boys in this film.
Edited on Tue Dec-12-06 07:23 AM by StrictlyRockers
This scene just creeped me out the door. One of the boys, Levi, who is one of the three main children used as subjects in the film, goes up to meet Pastor Ted Haggart after his sermon.

Haggart acts a bit strange during this brief encounter. He shakes Levi's hand for an unusually long time. I mean he gets a grip on this kid's hand and won't let go. Levi seems quite anxious to get his hand back.

Then he tells him he's a "cute kid". He tells Levi he should become a preacher and "use the cute kid thing until your thirty" to help him get where he's going with his preaching. um, CREEP ALERT!

Then there's this bit at 1:07:39 into the movie:

Haggart - "What's your favorite subject?"

Levi - "My favorite subject? I like faith. That's my favorite subject."

Haggart - "Well, that's ... (wait for it) ... fabulous!"

31. THEFT, THEFT, you guys are all stealing.....
Edited on Tue Dec-12-06 07:20 AM by GumboYaYa
As an independent filmmaker who struggles to earn the cash back that I put into films, THIS DISGUSTS ME!!!! All of you are stealing from the content owners when you watch content posted without the owner's consent. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Documentary filmmakers struggle to make back the money we put into films, but we keep doing it b/c someone has to be the truth tellers in our society. Our best bet at ever getting the investment back is to sell DVDs, but when you post the content without consent it makes that difficult task even harder.

32. Here's the website for the indie film producers. Support their work so they'll make more!
These guys deserve to be well paid for doing fine work.

http://www.jesuscampthemovie.com/

I'd like to think that by giving them exposure, we are promoting their film. Those that watch it will be inspired to join their mailing list and to purchase copies to give away to friends. Those who are too poor to afford to buy a DVD may also get access to information that they might otherwise never get.

Those who can afford it - show the film makers your appreciation! Buy the Jesus Camp movie DVD. It makes a great stocking stuffer! Give the gift of documentary. It's the THOUGHT that counts. (wink)

This documentary was so powerful and so effective that they had to shut that camp down! That's right, there is NO MORE Jesus Camp thanks to this movie! Show 'em some love. Kick down you hippies!

I know Heidi and Rachel and I know that they do not want their work stolen. You aren't supporting anyone, YOU ARE STEALING!!! It is that simple.

Your justifications don't cut it with me. I know how this business works because I am in it and you are screwing the filmmakers out of profits they need to support their craft.

40. I disagree strongly
This movie being on the web gives the movie and (Heidi and Rachel) more exposure than they could have ever dreamed of.
Without the internet how many people would have ever been exposed to it?
I am sure those of us who have seen it will want others to see it and will buy the DVD.
Neil Young put his new recording Living With War in it's entirety free on the web for everyone and it went to #1 on the rock charts 2 weeks in a row.

A leading indicator of where music sales trends are going is i-Tunes. And although LIVING WITH WAR peeked last week at #2 on the overall chart, the album came in #1 on the rock chart (2 weeks in a row)
http://downwithtyranny.blogspot.com/2006/05/despite-far-rights-best-efforts-neil.html
This is the best thing that could have ever happened to Heidi and Rachel.

43. Just a note . . .
I thought the filmmakers had made it available at google. When you say "you all should be ashamed" you ALL are stealing, you all disgust me, did it occur to you that many of us thought the documentary makers wanted it shown more widely?

Truly, I wanted to see it so badly, it is showing nowhere near me and was delighted to find it, now I feel so dirty :(

But I hope they get an Oscar nod.
