IRONICALLY, instead of watching the SOTU tonight I watched |
|
on TCM "Born Yesterday," the 1950 Garson Kanin-penned movie that has the journalist character Paul Varrell, played by William Holden, explaining to Judy Holliday at the Library of Congress what he has intended in an article on democracy he wrote. She has just seen original copies of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights.
"Selfishness gets to be an organized cause, even government. Then it's called FASCISM," he says, raising his voice.
The film also repeatedly quotes Thomas Jefferson: "I swear eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man."
That's what I watched instead of the SOTU address.

1. I went to see Brokeback Mountain instead. |

While the Leader Homophobe was preaching in Washington I got a glimpse of a world our Leader will never understand or even care about. The talking heads are now telling me I didnt miss much by electing to disregard the TV.

2. Watch Cindy on "Good Morning America," tomorrow at 7 a.m., too. |
|
Still haven't seen "Brokeback" yet, but I have a feeling it will be around for a while with the Oscar nominations.

3. I watched Escape From New York. |
|
And as I watched it, I wondered how long it would be until America was a police state like it is in that movie. :D
