PREDICTION: McCain will be the Next President of the U.S.
Before ANY Impeachment Hearings Are Considered, Bush WILL RESIGN making Cheney President. He will appoint McCain as V.P. so that just in case he is impeached and found guilty, McCain will be the next President. Cheney will go the distance of a full impeachment trial and I believe at this point, 2/3rds of the senate would convict, especially if Bush resigns.

Anyone have any other ideas who Cheney will pick as V.P. in this scenario?

1. Bush won't resign.
Even if Mr. Muleheaded admitted defeat and quit, Cheney would nominate the most hideous VP imaginable. Somebody like Tom DeLay or Rick Santorum or Sam Brownback. By doing so, he ensures that he will never be impeached.

But Bush won't resign.

3. Bush is a Coward and a Quitter who doesn't have the strength or moral ground to stand trial
He'll quit for sure and let Cheney take the heat.

30. Agree. After all, Clinton did not resign, either
even though some liberals had a similar scenario - Gore becomes president and, come 2000, he is the incumbent.

Remember, we do have a one vote majority in the Senate, but this does not mean that Bush will lose. There will always be a few Democrat who will vote NO.

4. Prediction: No he won't
I must remind everyone that the Little Monkey is a petulant adolescent and just like any petulant adolescent he will defy everyone to the bitter end. His removal from office will be forced and concurrent with the removal of Small Dick "Fucking" Cheney from his barricaded citadel on Massachusetts Avenue.

(On a side note, anyone ever wonder why "Fucking" has an arsenal of personal weapons including full auto rifles? My conjecture is that he plans on making a spectacular final stand which last all of about three seconds).

7. Bush is a Coward. See my post #3 above.
If Bush ACTUALLY had to stand trial in Impeachment, he would resign.

The man couldn't even spare a few minutes to face Cindy Sheehan when she camped out at the Crawford Ranch. You think he's going to testify in front of Congress. No way in hell.

6. Congress would have to approve of anyone he nominated.
I imagine that there would be some back room dealings, and it would more likely end up being someone like Collin Powell, especially if he stated that he wouldn't run in the next election. Thats how we ended up with Gerald Ford when Nixon resigned. His remedy for curing inflation was win buttons.

8. Colin Powell would be far less likely to be approved
McCain has some distance from the WHIG. Powell was PART OF THE DECEPTION.

McCain would *easily* win approval from Congress.

10. If we still have a substantial number of troops in Iraq, I can't see someone
who advocates sending in more troops being confirmed. The general public's perceptions of Powell are a lot different than ours.

9. This is all tongue and cheek, right? Because I don't think any of
your scenarios would truly play out...especially the one about idiot boy resigning before any impeachment hearings.

12. Many things might still happen, but NO WAY McCain would
be named President, or elected president. I think there's a very good chance he'll be impeached, but we have a long way to go to get the necessary Republican support. I thought Cheyney and McCain were enemies?

19. McCain would neither be named or elected. He would become President as the law describes
And I don't think we would have the support to impeach Bush successfully, but I certainly think we would have 2/3rds of the Senate vote required to get rid of Cheney.

14. If Bush doesn't have it in him to admit when he's wrong,
he certainly doesn't have it in him to resign the presidency his daddy & his connections gave him.

Everything that I've observed about McCain's odd relationship to Bush makes me suspect that McCain was promised an inside track in getting the Rethug nomination if he would use his then-good status with both parties to campaign for Bush in 2004. McCain doesn't seem to realize that he was used by the bully, who was very likely laughing behind his back at how easily he could be manipulated. My first thought was that Bush had threatened McCain in some way because those hugs between them seemed excrutiatingly painful & forced for McCain, but now that McCain is playing up to the Christian fundementalists' interests, it seems to me that McCain would sell his soul to the devil to get the prize.

Then Bush appoints McCain as VP. Then Bush resigns and McCain becomes prez.

24. He'll be older than Reagan
And do the American people want another Reagan with early Alzheimer's symptoms? Not able to remember what orders he gave to swap arms for hostages? Don't think so.

What the country needs is another JFK, a youthful, barely-legal-age whippersnapper who can energize the jaded youth of today.

THAT would get my attention.

which I think is a possibility, I don't think they'd appoint McCain.

First of all, the Bush Administration hates him (for different reasons than us, but they hate him all the same--putting him in the WH wouldn't satisfy them). Secondly, if he leaves his Senate seat, Arizona's Democratic governor will then appoint his replacement, strengthening the Dems' hold in that chamber.

21. McCain has been changing his tune since 2005 (remember the big Bush/McCain Hug)
McCain has become a BushBot. They would certainly tap him for V.P.

And one more seat in the Senate isn't going to change anything for them at this point anyway.

23. They still don't like him.
McCain can move to the right all he wants, there are bigger nutjobs that are much more in line with (and loyal to) the Bush Administration's policies.

And the Senate is still very much up in the air, especially with people like Lieberman and Nelson (NE) in the mix.

Yeah, that whole idea about massively raising troop levels (as if it were possible without a draft) and rejecting a bi-partisan report is going to go over REAL well in 08.
