Seventy-million-year sea reptile found in Antarctica

http://science.monstersandcritics.com/news/article_1232193.php/Seventy-million-year_sea_reptile_found_in_Antarctica

Buenos Aires - Argentine and US scientists found the remains of a young plesiosaur fossil - a sea reptile that was probably killed and preserved by a volcanic eruption in Antarctica 70 million years ago.

The Argentine Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that the skeleton was found on Cape Lamb, south-west of the Vega island, near the extreme north of the Antarctic Peninsula. The operation was risky, due to strong winds and extremely low temperatures.

According to investigators, this is one of the most complete plesiosaur skeletons ever found, and without a doubt the best articulated of those found in Antarctica.

The ministry indicated that the plesiosaur remains - which were very well preserved - were loaded onto an Argentine Air Force helicopter equipped to support scientific projects in the area. They were then taken to a museum in the US state of South Dakota for further study.
