We get a little riled up around here, that's for sure. DU is full of passionate people who are willing to fight to the death (or at least the last insult) to maintain their position.

Whether it be for their pick for a '08 Presidential Candidate or whether we should be looking at some sort of universal draft, people are up in arms and throwing fire at one another as if it's going out of style.

I love you guys, I really do. We are all (mostly) intelligent, caring folks with a great deal of heart and soul. DU is a damn unique place, in my experience. We care about each other, even if we fight. When one of us goes down, another rushes to rally the troops. We have our own fallen heroes and our own not-quite-forgotten exiles.

It's almost as if it's a real country of its own.

I don't do New Years resolutions. I think it's a pretty silly habit, considering that it's more remarkable when someone actually keeps them than when they don't. But I'm going to try to tone down on the snark from this moment on. We need to conserve snark anyway. We may have to use it to bring our Congresscritters to heel come this next year.

In the interest of keeping this resolution, I'll be avoiding the type of threads that get ME going. I can't win a debate about the draft, and I pretty much know the major players who I'd be debating with anyway. Why rehash old arguments ad nauseum?

I've not come down on the side of any potential candidate, though there are several I would gladly support, either as a Presidential candidate or a VP candidate. You could throw just about any combination out there and I could think of a good reason to support it. There ARE, however, a few exceptions to this, but I'm just going to say that I think perhaps 50 to 60 percent of DUers would agree with my position, and my reasons for that position. And they have nothing to do with RW propaganda, since just about the only place I'm even EXPOSED to RW propaganda is HERE.

I don't want to fight with the people here, the closest thing to an internet family I'll ever know, as close to me as the cadre of authors I share my joys and triumphs with through e-mail.

So here I go, putting a cap on my snark shooter and hiding the refill kit. You're all my witnesses. I'm giving up on snark for the time being.

Isn't it the season?

We're like a family. And sometimes families fight.

As my friend and former protege Dave might say... "It's all good."
