Military Christianists: America #3 on their Loyalty list
By: John Amato @ 10:17 PM - PST Submit or Digg this Post

pentagon1.jpg This is not a joke. The Pentagon has been infiltrated by the Roy Moore wing of the Republican party—or the Christianists. How many of you have ever heard of the Christian Embassy? I've talked about the Evangelical Right and the Air Force many times before, but this video is truly disturbing. I'm not against religion at all, but not in this context. Lambert brought this story and video to my attention.

Video-WMP Video-QT

Washington Post:http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/10/AR2006121000883.html

A military watchdog group is asking the Defense Department to investigate whether seven Army and Air Force officers violated regulations by appearing in uniform in a promotional video for an evangelical Christian organization. In the video, much of which was filmed inside the Pentagon, four generals and three colonels praise the Christian Embassy, a group that evangelizes among military leaders, politicians and diplomats in Washington. Some of the officers describe their efforts to spread their faith within the military.

1. Remember, General Boyton
(of, my god's penis is longer that your god's - fame) is the highest ranking uniformed man serving on Rumsfeld's staff.

that explains a lot.

3. Boykin
a total freak!

William G. Boykin
From SourceWatch
United States Army Lt. General William G. "Jerry" Boykin is nominated by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld for a third star and has been named to a new position as Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence. He reports to the current Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence Stephen A. Cambone.

Because of Boykin's anti-Islamic remarks made frequently and publicly, his appointment is seen by many as likely to increase the perception among Muslims that the U.S. is engaged in a War on Islam. Indeed, Boykin's blunt rhetoric seems to evoke this directly. In describing the faceoff in Somalia:

"There was a man in Mogadishu named Osman Atto," whom Boykin described as a top lieutenant of Mohammed Farah Aidid.
"When Boykin's Delta Force commandos went after Atto, they missed him by seconds, he said. "He went on CNN and he laughed at us, and he said, 'They'll never get me because Allah will protect me. Allah will protect me.'
"Well, you know what?" Boykin continued. "I knew that my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God and his was an idol." Atto later was captured.
"Our "spiritual enemy," Boykin continued, "will only be defeated if we come against them in the name of Jesus."

14. I sit corrected. thanks.
Ad he is a nutjob. I heard a rumor that he personally was the reason that the Air Force reversed itself on the scandals in the Colorado Academy and permitted the nut job christians to brain wash cadets again. Funny how that story dropped off the "radar" screen, huh?

2. The military employs officers, in uniform, who
are ministers of their faiths. Many of those ministers are what you would evangelicals.

This story is not news.

4. That's not what they're talking about
These are the dominionist types who want to establish a theocracy. And they're talking about non-chaplain people here.

6. There are a number of military-supported faith-based outreach groups
military members can participate in.

methinks the wearing of the uniform makes this a violation
also what about the bible study classes in the office??

I am involved with a lawsuit regarding faith based bs in prisons
you can read about it here

http://www.bc-alliance.org/ scroll down to Performance of Firm Foundation of Bradford County

all of this kind of stuff should be watched like a hawk and challenged

10. "faith-based bs"?
You know, as a soldier myself, I frequently turned to my God in my time of need. A lot of times, I was in uniform. A lot of other times, my need to reach out involved other sodliers, also in uniform. Many times, those meetings occured while on duty, deployed, or on a lunch break, but we were all in uniform.

That "faith-based bs", as you put it, got me through some damned hairy and dangerous situations, so please show a little respect.

12. misunderstanding
I am not speaking about a personal belief system -
I am speaking about the separation of church and state and the faith based bs I am writing about is federal dollars funding christian ministries when proselytizing is apart of the service

9. Well then get them the fuck out of the government.
Most religions preach peace, not war. So they seemed to have fucked up the message a bit, as well.

7. Someone Was Saying to Me Last Summer
That the US military is heading towards a future where the Army will be what the Air Force has been, while the Air Force will concentrate on space militarization.

With that in mind, it's less surprising that the fundies are attempting to take over what used to be the US military division that had the most laid-back, rational and highly-educated members.

Think about it, in a 'go forth and conquer' kind of way.

13. Already knew about it. The Christian Embassy is in the story in this month's Harper's ,
"Through A Glass, Darkly" by Jeff Sharlet. It's about how the fundies are rewritting American history.
