It's a War FOR Christmas, Not ON Christmas |
|
Orchestrated? You betcha.
With the advent of the internet, everyone is free to research their little hearts out and find the true roots of the Christmas holiday: Saturnalia; Sol Invictus; Yule. All with pagan roots saluting the cessation of shorter days and longer nights. ie, The Earth's death and renewal which we witness with our own eyes every year.
These Christian warriors are fighting to re-establish ownership of the holiday and enforce the official salutation be directed not to the earth, but to a sky-God - seen by no-one but his acolytes.
I have no argument against Christians who see all the religious symbolism for what it is - symbolism - and don't claim ownership.
I just think it's about time that people sitting on the sidelines, laughing about the silliness of it all, wake up and realize that, like the RW attacks on the so-called "liberal" media of the 1990s, this attack has a purpose. That purpose is to engage in a war for, not on, Christmas.

but I often find that Liberals fall immediately into their trap. Look, we have a predominantly Christian country, whether we like it or not and if we eventually want to win the culture war we have to back off stupid nonsensical things like protesting a Christmas tree in a town where the vast majority of people are Christian.
People have their rituals and their celebrations and if liberals make it their cause to attack them, we will lose the support of the people we need to have the power to make good progressive policy.
Sure the right has created the "War on Christmas" but many liberals walk blindly into the trap.
Besides the Supreme Court gave the "reindeer ruling" which considers x-mas trees and reindeer secular symbols as opposed to "religious symbols".
