Do you ever root for teams from BLUE states to kick teams from RED states?
Ok, this is not the most compelling question of the day - but in the mood to keep it easy:D

Leaving out teams from your home state or region, if you have no other geographic connect or interest in them; do you ever root for a victor based on how the majority of their fan base voted?

I'm not a Viking or a Cowboy fan, but ya bet I'll root for Minnesota to kick Dallas in a match up. For that matter, far prefer the Michigan Wolverines (solid BLUE state) to beat out (in rankings) the Oklahoma Sooners (yukky RED). And ANY team from Massachusetts should trounce any team from Alabama! Its not rational, but I feel like all those red voters deserve to get their team's ass kicked for being stupid enough to vote for BushCo. Anyone else feel the same?

Good thing I live in BLUE Washington. Go Seahawks! :headbang:

1. Yes! That's one of my main criteria
I am from Michigan but live in Washington now, and I don't think I could live in a red state. I also now bear special grudges for teams from Florida, Texas, and Ohio, due to the election shenanigans in Florida and Ohio, and to Texas having sicced that monster on the world, seemingly without shame.

GO BLUE!

14. Michigan has a football team? You should have brought them down to Columbus
this year instead of those overdressed cheerleaders you fielded.

GO BUCKS!!!

Can you say Heisman???

Didn't think so.

I thought they took their interpretive dance team and dressed 'em up like football players.

33. We didn't either
It's all there in black n' white in Rolling Stone.

But we were talking about football.

Chips anyone?

(I promise I am only an ass about Buckeye football...I am perfectly reasonable otherwise)

36. Don't forget the prayin' coach
who was afraid to vote for a rematch!

LOL. I have a friend in Ohio who lives in the Cincinnati area. She is a lifelong Democrat (that's how we met) and I could NOT get her to take the Diebold stuff seriously. I got really frustrated with her, though she did eventually figure out that Blackwell was corrupt.

38. I had a heated email debate with my puke State Sen.
Edited on Tue Dec-12-06 08:34 PM by Zodiak Ironfist
He just went along with Ken Blackwell's wishes like a friggin' drone. I made sure to tell that bastard that I would vote against his ass and tell everyone I knew to do the same. I was amazed that he answered his email.

Cinncinnati people are different. I know one who claims to be a Democrat but voted for Boehner because his family met the guy once. The dude covered up for a pedophile!! Cinncinnatti is a red area, so it is okay to despise their team.

But the Buckeyes rock!! Those three points were to encourage future ticket sales.;) Relaxes the defense and all.

39. My friend is from Michigan, lived in Cleveland for years
and got transferred to Cincinnati. The worst of it was that she not only kept defending the CEO of Diebold (she called him a nice guy), but she also got laid off by GE, and STILL DIDN'T CARE about vote fraud. She seems to have finally seen the light, though. She now works at a non-profit doing student loans (instead of financing GE credit cards) and was pleased Blackwell was ousted.

I still say Prayin' Jim was afraid of a rematch.

3. Nah. I've lived in a lot of places, so...
If I can't root for my home team, I'll root for a place I used to live. If there's no place like that involved, then I'm probably not even watching the game.

5. I REALLY hate to admit this...
and Blue Texans, please realize that I think you are the some of the best and bravest people on the planet, but I ALWAYS CHEER FOR ANYONE PLAYING ANY TEAM FROM TEXAS! Of course, I blame them for giving us Little Lord Pissypants and Tom DeLay among other things...

And.........of course, this makes no sense, because I'm a native Floridian and I blame Florida too - for the 2000 presidential fiasco (as well I should!) - but I'll still root for the 'Noles!

Where I'm from in Florida, more republicans are Gator or Miami fans while more democrats are Seminole fans - don't ask why I don't know - so it's always helped color my decision to root for the 'Noles.

Now that I live in Massachusetts - it's easy to cheer for the PATRIOTS! (except maybe this last Sunday....)

7. I do
The only sport I watch is hockey. I have found that if I'm watching a game and if Columbus, Nashville, Carolina, Florida, Tampa Bay, Phoenix, Atlanta, Dallas or Colorado (the 9 NHL teams that play in red states) are playing, I almost always cheer against those teams.

40. Oh yeah, me too!
I prefer to root for the Canadian=based NHL teams, then Detroit, and to a lesser extent, the Rangers, Flyers and Bruins, because these are good hockey towns. I can't stand it that the last two Cups have gone to Red State teams, especially when Carolina is not even selling out many of their games after just coming off the Cup win this past summer. These cities don't give a damn about hockey! As for the other sports, my fave teams are from Oakland so no problem rooting for blue state teams there. I now find myself rooting for Seattle if they are not playing Oakland.

from the recently BLUE state of Ohio kick the shit out of Flori-DUH. Can't wait to see Jebby and GHWB crying in the stands.

Of course I'm a Buckeye fan to start with. I think that Michigan got "jobbed". It should be two BLUE states playing for that national title.

as, we say. That is, he's for Florida State. That's the low education, right wing school in Florida.

And when was the last time Ohio beat and SEC team? I'm thinking in the 80's.

21. No, I don't see the point
I know that all those teams in red states have liberal fans as well.

I think that the liberal fans of those teams deserve to have their team win so they have something positive come from their state. The fans of blue state teams already get to live in blue states. That's enough for them. They don't need their teams to win as well.

Actually, I don't feel that way either, but it makes as much sense to me :)

29. Generally don't give it that much thought.
Hell, if you consider geographic space, Virginia is pretty red to the bone with the exception of the cities. It's the population mass in the cities that allowed Webb to get elected.

I will generally cheer for anyone to beat Dallas but that's more a result of me being a fan of the Steelers than politics.
