Indian school throws out HIV boy
A four-year-old boy has been thrown out of nursery school in India because he has been found to be HIV-positive.

The government-run school in Alwal, near the southern city of Hyderabad, sent the child home after parents of other children protested.

It is the latest in a series of similar cases in India, which has the highest number of HIV infections in the world.

Recently, former US President Bill Clinton called India the epicentre of the global HIV/Aids epidemic.

2. And the ignorance and fear continues toward those who are HIV+.

It's Ryan White all over again. Sad.

On edit: It's an HIV topic, so this one will drop like a stone.

4. Kick b/c I'm curious what others think.
Should an HIV+ child be allowed to attend public school with other kids?

8. This just adds to the fear mongering that accompanies HIV and transmission.
I still get asked if HIV is airborne. 25 years after the first reported case to the CDC, and people still ask this question.

9. And yet OUR government still sends out misinformation about transmission.
Bill Frist on Press the Meat could not answer whether or not HIV can be transmitted through sweat.

What century are we living in?

12. Should this kid be isolated from his classmates?
Where are your opinions about why he should or should not be able to interact with the other kids?

13. Almost complete silence when it comes to persons with HIV.
You'd think that kids would raise awareness and there would be a bit more interest.

Maybe progressives still have a misunderstanding with HIV transmission. It's not the first time I've brought it up.

wasn't this an issue in the United States some years back ?
