Watching his press conference today was amazing. What passion.

1. If he wins enough delegates, certainly he deserves it.

13. If he gets enough support, he'll win enough delegates.

If everyone sits on their thumbs again, saying "Oh, he can never win," how the hell do they expect him to win? The electorate just showed last month that they want big changes but DUers and Dems in Congress (House and Senate) are acting like a minority party, trying to make nice with the GOP. You can't make nice with pit bulls.

21. Sorry, Kucinich does not have my support.
I actually would like to see the Democrats win the presidential election in 2008. To do that we not only need the Liberal Democrats, but also many Independents as well as whatever Republicans we can get. Any electable Democrat is better than any Republican. Tell me about principles--been there, done that. As a 20 year old I cast my first presidential vote for George McGovern. We were full of principles and where did it get us? More years of war and thousands of more dying. At 54 I live in the real world, one that is imperfectly principled, but you do the best you can. Another Republican in the White House after Bush helps nobody. Yeah, tell me about principles because my own Senator Feingold has them in spades and he also realized that he could not be elected as president in 2008 and his candidacy in the primaries would not be helpful.

Once again, a presidential run with a conscience

We have little to laugh about in this town. But let's not laugh at the fact that Dennis Kucinich is running for president again.

In 2004, his candidacy was greeted here with scorn. But not in this space.

I knew he would lose, but he was saying things nobody else was saying. And now we know that the things he was say ing have all come true.

Iraq has become a quagmire. That wasn't a popular idea back then. Dennis was ahead on that one. Too many people in his own party didn't have a clue...

4. What can we do?
What do people here have as ideas to move people like dennis forward. I tried so hard in the past to affect things like this, that's how I came to DU...we get democrats elected, but they just turn into DINO's once they win the election. Someone like dennis won't do that... So what's the plan around here (since it seems like ya'll agree) to make it happen!!

9. THAT'S THE PROBLEM!!!
You just said you like him, but wish he had a shot. Maybe someone like Dennis would 'have a shot' if all the folks like you (and like me in '04) would just vote our conscience and vote for DENNIS!!

Edited on Tue Dec-12-06 09:16 PM by mike_c
...except Al Gore if he decides to run. But in the primary I'd support DK even over Gore and I hope he gets the nomination. No reservations about voting for Kucinich. He speaks for me.

17. I agree, I am torn
Gore has been my fervent hope, but if Kucinich is in the mix I will have to split my support and would agonize about which one the pull the lever for in the primary. If (egads!) Gore does not run, Kucinich will have my support.

Now Gore/Kucinich...or Kucinich/Gore would just be a pipe dream. But it's a pipe dream I would definitely vote for.

16. In the words of William Munny in "Unforgiven"
"Deserve's got nothing to do with it." If it was about who deserved what, Al Gore would be President right now.

19. But Ed Schulz just called him a "left-wing nutjob"
He did, I heard him say it today.

Not sure what he meant by that.

Then, Ed went on a rant about "what is mainstream, any how?"

Man, that dude needs to be "educated".

Because if Dennis Kucinich EVER became president.... your main problems are damned near resolved.

Because Kucinich has the intelligence, the ideas, the guts and the passion that is sorely needed here.

Go, Ku Go!

22. Yeah, like we need 4 more years of a repug president
Sorry, this is nonsense. Go look up Median Voter Theorem. Kucinich has neither the ideological position, or the charisma to make up for it, to get to that median voter. While I too am well to the left of that MV position, meaning I could support a DK canididacy, I'm sensible enough to realize nominating a candidate so far to the left is tantamount to handing the republicans the White House. Rail against the political institutions if you want, but realize that its just the rules of the game as designed by the framers of the constitution.

24. I like Kucinich for his ideas . . . but he'd never win a general election . . .
and very probably has no chance at the nomination . . . he just doesn't have the "sex appeal" of an Edwards, a Gore, a Kerry or a Clark . . . and all I mean by that is that he puts people off when he speaks . . . it's just a personality thing -- and his won't fly . . .
